Global Science & Technology, Inc (GST), a growing scientific and high technology company, is seeking a Scientific Analyst and Coordinator to support NASA's Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS) Project.

This position is located in Greenbelt at the NASA Goddard Flight Center, but is temporarily approved for telework due to Covid-19. A hybrid model of onsite and telework each week will likely be put in place in the coming months.

This is a part-time role, requiring approximately 10-20 hours of work per week.


Position Summary:

GST is seeking a Scientific Analyst and Coordinator to become an integral part of the team that assists NASA's Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS) Project in formulating standards policy for NASA Earth Science Data Systems (ESDS). This position will play a key role in coordinating standards activities within ESDIS and providing technical expertise and assistance with standards related tasks within ESDS.

Primary Duties:

  • Coordinate and lead the formation of technical working groups that are responsible for reviewing standards and technical notes that may be brought forward by ESDSWG, ESDIS, or others in NASA's Earth science community.
  • Work to promulgate these standards and information to the broader NASA and international Earth science community.
  • Help promote data format, metadata, quality information, and preservation standards that will improve interoperability, discoverability, visualization, and ease of use of NASA Earth science datasets, particular analysis ready data that can be used across disciplines.
  • Provide general reporting on standards and progress.
  • Develop and coordinate workshops in the planning on future standards requirements.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Master's Degree (M.S.) in Meteorology, Oceanography, Geography, Earth Science, Computer Science or other related discipline and a minimum of 10 years in the field or in a related area or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience working with Earth science datasets, standards, and metadata
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills * Experience in working on data standards, and communities of practice
  • Experience networking and developing partnerships with user communities in academia, multi-agency, and international environments
  • Experience facilitating leading diverse groups of stakeholders such as government agencies, academia, NGO, and international groups to achieve consensus

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience using Earth science datasets/imagery to create end user products
  • Experience organizing and coordinating technical conferences
