Project Manager (Location: Malawi)

IDS is seeking a Project Manager for Pre-Construction activities for Malawi Defense Force's (MDF) Malawi Armed Forces College (MAFCO), and Construction including all labor, materials, equipment, and services necessary to accomplish the construction required by this contract.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct construction site supervision and manage site operations.
  • Ensure all construction activities are performed in accordance with the terms of agreement and specifications; obtains required approvals for any changes to designs, specifications, and scopes of work.
  • Support the planning and designing the program and proactively monitoring its progress, resolving issues and initiating appropriate corrective action.
  • Recommend corrective actions to resolve problems during construction. Works independently and reviews construction reports to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the award/contract.
  • Review periodic payment invoices and recommends disbursement of funds; monitors project schedules, budgets and resource plans to ensure that projects adhere to schedule and budget and advises of any deviations from the approved project work plan; Recommends concurrence with variations, change orders or contract amendments.
  • Assess potential construction risks on site.
  • Ensure compliance with quality and safety.
  • Manage budget and construction schedule..
  • Liaise between engineers, quantity surveyors and other working on projects
  • Respond to potential and actual work delays, emergencies and other work disruptions.
  • Communicate closely with ATSI headquarters and field teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity/Land Surveying or other relevant qualification
  • 4+ years of experience in managing similar projects
  • Registered Professional with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP)
  • A proven record of excellent management, leadership, decision-making, communication and interpersonal skills, including being an articulate speaker and sympathetic listener.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and effectively assemble and manage a highly-skilled, interdisciplinary team; interact with and lead a broad range of governmental and non-governmental actors and institutions across sectors
  • Demonstrated experience managing evaluation or assessment teams in the field from a central project office.
  • Strong written and oral communication in English and excellent interpersonal skills.

Employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically less than 20 pounds, but may vary depending on the position. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
