Consulting Market Research Analyst - Growth, Marketing & Sales Solutions
Who You'll Work With
You will be based in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, New Jersey, New York, Toronto, Waltham or Washington DC and will be part of our Growth, Marketing and Sales Solution, Periscope. You will work with our Agile Insights Solution that is aimed at developing and providing software-based solutions to help companies achieve above-market growth rates by identifying, enabling, and sustaining best-practice commercial operations.
Founded in 2007, Periscope by McKinsey enables better commercial decisions by uncovering actionable insights. The Periscope platform combines world-leading intellectual property, prescriptive analytics, and cloud-based tools to provide more than 25 solutions focused on commercial excellence, including sales, pricing, customer insights and marketing.
Periscope experts work closely with clients to embed these solutions into operational IT environments, and work closely with McKinsey's Growth, Marketing & Sales consultants to transform client business processes to deliver revenue growth both now and in the future. What You'll Do
You will support the development of the content expertise (assets, knowledge, tools) and deliver that expertise to both client project teams and directly to clients.
In this role, you will independently solve client problems in your area of expertise and develop specialized expertise within content area. Your role will be ~70% client-facing - scoping surveys, configuring/writing survey text, managing the service delivery process through programming and fielding and working with McKinsey Solutions Analysts to interpret surveys. You will be involved with client engagements in the following two ways: (1) part of the client project team, leading a workstream in your area of expertise, (2) provide short-term support delivering key insights in content-focused questions
You will elicit client/team strategic objectives and translate those into research objectives, write surveys end to end that address market research objectives. This will include capturing nuances in surveys, assessing vendor options, identify strengths and best fit for each situation. You will create a storyline from a survey output and work with analytics analysts to translate analysis into Insights.
  • Bachelors degree required; masters degree preferred
  • 1-3 years of basic market research skills with a strong emphasis on quantitative experience and consumer and shopper insights
  • Preferable background at a market research agency or a research department at a consumer-oriented company
  • Solid problem-solving skills
  • Well versed in usage and attitude measurement, brand equity measurement, concept testing, product testing, segmentation, etc.
  • Superior analytical thinking skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and derive insights
  • Highly developed understanding of relevant content area (e.g., industry sector, functional topic)
  • Advanced business knowledge and ability to translate research objectives into business objectives
  • Full understanding of research techniques, information sources, and statistical analysis/analytic techniques as relevant to role
  • Consistently delivers exceptional results and great ideas
  • Track record of being results oriented; demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results on time
  • Clear and precise communicator including excellent business writing skills
  • Comfortable working with statistical software packages
  • Ethnography background and one-on-one interviewing skills a plus
  • Highly organized, resourceful, and able to prioritize among competing demands
  • Outstanding interpersonal and influencing skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively on teams and with people at all levels
  • Ability to travel as needed
