This position is based in Washington, D.C. However, the nature of The Clearing's work and project-based environment requires travel to client locations in and around the D.C. metro area, including the greater Baltimore area. Occasional travel outside the D.C. metro area or out of state may be required at times.


The Senior Consultant manages a large project or multiple small projects to deadlines with limited supervision, designs and manages production of high-quality client deliverables, develops long-term project plans, and creates and manages critical path and resource allocation decisions. The Senior Consultant uses problem-solving and subject matter expertise to guide team members and to troubleshoot client/project issues. The Senior Consultant manages, develops, and mentors project staff, setting measurable standards of excellence and providing purpose and direction for the group. The Senior Consultant creates meaningful and trusted relationships with clients, understands the client environment, and advises on evolving opportunities. The Senior Consultant develops customized approaches to problem solving with clients and creates safe and honest "clearings" for client conversations. As a result of exceptional work products and relationships, the Senior Consultant captures new leads and business opportunities. The Senior Consultant validates requirements from prospective clients and acts as lead writer on numerous proposals. Specific responsibilities may vary and include:

  • Manage a full-time project or multiple part-time projects, successfully, by scoping tasks and managing resources to complete such tasks on time, within budget, and to specifications
  • Designs long-term and short-term project plans
  • Designs and manages the production of high-quality client deliverables
  • Designs, facilitates, and manages client meetings to successfully achieve identified, desired outcomes
  • Effectively leads medium sized teams
  • Engages with clients and successfully advises in one-on-one conversations
  • Manages financial aspects of project lanes/projects to include: time tracking/reporting, expense reporting, invoicing, task planning, status reporting
  • Research and analysis in support of client projects and meetings
  • Presentation of research findings (e.g., Excel charts, Power Point presentations) and support for production of major client deliverables
  • Basic quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Staff development for junior consultants
  • Proposal development contributions; sometimes serving as a proposal coordinator
  • Support of internal TC activities and knowledge management effort
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Project Management/Delivery: Deepening active listening expertise to capture essential points and understand nuances so that you contribute to client value creation and moving our clients to 'act and engage' to achieve outcomes.
  • Client Relationships: Embedding well into an existing team environment in order to learn how to communicate and navigate effectively with different personality styles and how to translate this to individual clients.
  • Leadership/Communication: Leading the development of impactful client deliverables in order to contribute to client ability to achieve their outcomes and to navigate a process for product development and delegation, as needed.
  • Business Development: Participating in key TC business development opportunities, such as chalk talks, alignment sessions, and/or proposal development so that there is a deep understanding of the unique value proposition that TC offers.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • 6 + years of relevant work experience, including consulting experience
  • Bachelors Degree required, Masters degree a plus
  • Strong business writing abilities are a must as well as strong editing skills
  • Proficiency in word processing, excel, presentation creation tools, and internet research tools required
  • Active U.S. Security Clearance
  • Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a positive suitability determination (required for select positions)
  • Willingness and ability to travel to client sites in the surrounding DC and Baltimore metro areas; occasional travel outside of these regions could be expected (5%)
  • Desired Skills, Experiences and Certifications: PMP and/or Prosci certification, change management, strategic communication, program management, or organizational design experience


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS


While performing duties of this job, an employee may be required to perform any, or all of the following: Attend meetings in and out of the office, travel (sometimes extensively); Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand; Communicate effectively (both orally and in writing); Ability to effectively use computers and other electronic and standard office equipment; Occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work is primarily sedentary and involves sitting for several hours at a time. Occasionally walking, climbing stairs, and standing occur in this role. Additionally, this job requires certain mental demands, including the ability to use judgement, withstand moderate amounts of stress and maintain attention to detail.
