Job Description

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this job. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform work-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description. This job description is not a "contract" between the employee and the Authority. The job duties and essential functions may be changed at the discretion of the General Manager.

SUMMARY:

Repairs and installs electrical equipment and power distribution systems by referring to blueprints, technical orders, schematics, wiring diagrams and manufacturer's specifications and using test equipment. Work tasks include inspecting testing, troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, modifying, and performing general maintenance of complex alternating/direct current (AC/DC) electrical and electronic equipment such as motors, transformers, generators, switches, sensors, control panels, variable frequency drives and voltage regulators.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance tasks for electrical equipment and electronic controls and systems.
  • Performs testing of electrical equipment and systems in accordance with applicable procedures, and guidelines.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in diagnosing causes of malfunctions on a wide variety of electrical and electronically controlled and powered equipment and systems including Variable Frequency Drives, Motor Control Centers and Smart MCCs.
  • Takes infrared images using a FLIR E-60 infrared or similar camera to identify various mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Provides feedback to improve work order job plans and maintenance procedures.
  • Maintains equipment and tools utilized to test, repair, install, and replace equipment.
  • Maintains and manages shop stock inventory.
  • Performs work involving the installation of complex electrical and electronic systems on systems up to and including 600 volt classification.
  • Installs and replacement of electrical conduit and raceway systems.
  • Utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) for electrical and other hazards within the work environment. Coordinates and implements Lock-Out-Tag-Out, Arc Flash and confined space entry protocols related to maintenance of electrical systems and equipment for Operations and other Trades/Skill Crafts.
  • Coordinates and performs maintenance tasks within mixed craft/trade work assignments.
  • Performs maintenance related housekeeping duties as required in the repair and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Utilizes MAXIMO Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to review assignments and document work completed in the maintenance of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position. Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.
  • Complies with rules and regulations related to safety and other work related policies and procedures of the Authority, OSHA, NFPA, and NEC.
  • Performs other related duties, tasks, and projects as assigned at the discretion of the Foreman, Electrical (Master).

Key Working Relationships: Interacts with internal with co-workers and internal customers throughout the Authority.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE & OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

The minimum qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are provided.

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and five (5) years of progressive experience or Associates Degree in Industrial electrical/electronic related field and four (4) years progressive experience directly associated with installing, repairing and maintain electrical and electronic components of machinery, equipment and systems.
  • Must possess and maintain current a valid DC Journeyman Electrician's License.
  • Must possess and maintain current a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical and electronic principles related to complex multi-component assembles and devices.
  • Demonstrates ability to use electrical and electronic test equipment to diagnose and correct equipment and control system problems.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, rigging and lifting equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and blueprints.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pertinent guidelines, rules and regulations of NFPA and National Electric Code, and OSHA.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and abilities.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates skills arid abilities to utilize standard office management systems, including computers, scanners, copiers, printers, and software for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet based software applications.

  • Ability to lift and carry parts, assemblies, and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing; moderate walking.
  • Work performed on ladders, elevated surfaces and platforms, and in confined spaces.
