What you will do in this role:
The Certified Medical Physicist ensures high quality of care during the use of radiation producing sources and imaging equipment. The Physicist calibrates Radiation Oncology equipment in accordance with State and National requirements. The Physicist implements quality control procedures for imaging devices and therapeutic equipment. The Physicist performs dose calculations for patient treatment plans, and performs dose verifications and quality assurance testing for patient plans. The Physicist is responsible for weekly chart checks, as well as developing and maintaining Radiation Therapy Safety procedures in compliance with all regulations. The Physicist is required to participate in the Radiation Safety Committee.
  • Develops and maintains quality assurance testing for all radiation therapy treatment modalities.
  • Demonstrate competency in Medical Physics with the ability to carry out highly complex assignments.
  • Performs routine clinical duties, acceptance testing, and commissioning of new equipment or procedures as it relates to Radiation Therapy.
  • Work closely with Dosimetrist and Physician in all aspects of treatment planning, QA, and patient treatment, and/or as necessary
  • Provides treatment planning and/or assistance to Dosimetrist and Radiation Oncologist when performing any LDR or HDR Brachytherapy procedures, and/or any associated treatment planning.
  • Assists Therapists with CT simulations, setups, and verification simulations as necessary.
  • Complies with Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines; provides appropriate teaching to patients and families as deemed necessary by MD.
  • Remains current on contemporary methods and attains current professional certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics from the American Board of Radiology.
  • Must have ability and be willing to travel to offsite imaging facilities for patient setup / image fusion.
  • Minimal travel required (less than 10% of time)
  • Occasional - rare after hours / emergency planning required.
  • Call not required, but potential for minimal call exists.


What qualifications you will need:

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Medical Physics or Radiation Physics
  • Monaco Treatment Planning System experience required (Elekta Equipment)
  • MIM Image Fusion Software experience preferred
  • RadCalc experience preferred
  • IMRT / IGRT / VMAT experience required
  • SBRT / SRS experience required - robust SRS program
  • Texas Medical Board Medical Physicist Licensure, ABR Licensure
  • Five plus years of experience preferred.
