JMT is seeking a motivated individual who desires increasing responsibilities in designing and managing Water Resources Engineering for a variety of projects. The successful candidate will be well-versed across the water resources discipline with demonstrated design experience in drainage and stormwater management design, modeling, and permitting with the supporting capabilities to perform a variety of design tasks in the civil engineering and environmental permitting field.

Successful candidates will be expected to effectively oversee, perform, and design a variety of water resource related engineering design and permitting project tasks. There is a significant need for a candidate that understands the existing Virginia stormwater regulations and has experience on stormwater and drainage design for Virginia transportation projects.

Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers.



Required Skills
  • Virginia P.E. is desired. If candidate has E.I.T must have the ability to obtain P.E. within six (6) months
  • Design responsibilities and project engineering skills are necessary
  • Knowledge and design experience in storm drainage design, wetland and waters of the US impacts, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control projects dealing with VDOT, VADEQ and USACE
  • Working knowledge of Virginia and local jurisdiction stormwater management and permitting regulations is required
  • DEQ certification in E&S and Stormwater inspection and or plan review preferred
  • General understanding of MicroStation, Civil 3D, GEOPAK/SUDA, Arc GIS, HEC RAS and proficiency in MS Word and Excel is required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must for preparation of project reports and proposals


Required Experience
  • Five (5) plus years of experience in water resources engineering on Virginia projects
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • Applicant should have experience with Virginia's Runoff Reduction Method and be able to evaluate projects using it to determine required pollutant reduction and which BMPs should be used to meet the requirements
  • Applicant should have established contacts with various local Public Works/Stormwater Departments, State and Federal agencies
  • Applicant shall be able to design LID / green infrastructure, stream restoration, and BMP retrofits

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work and overnight stay is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed.
