JMT is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead our Transportation Structures Section in Albany.

Position Summary

The primary role for this individual is to manage JMT's Albany Transportation Structures Section. Candidate will be responsible for the overall vision, business development, managing staff and financial success of a well-established and growing department. This person will be responsible for managing a technical engineering staff, including coordinating staff assignments with the Practice Leader and other offices in timely forecasting of project needs throughout JMT. The selected candidate will work closely with our New York Structures group while managing, developing, and growing the business in the Upstate New York Market. The successful candidate will be expected to assist in development of teaming, scope/fee, and approaches for Letters of Interest, Technical Proposals, Requests for Qualifications and Presentations; and be responsible for coordination with clients, subconsultants, and other government and regulatory agencies.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Establish and grow existing and new market presence in area through marketing and business development
  • Manage financial budget for department and allocate resources accordingly
  • Manage utilization of staff
  • Lead and contribute to the production of proposals
  • Serve as a technical expertise resource to project managers and technical staff
  • Establish resource staffing needs
  • Interview and hire staff for the section
  • Perform performance reviews for staff based on input from project managers on assigned teams
  • Coordinate work-sharing within region and between regions

Required Skills
  • Successfully work and manage multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • Ability to manage, mentor, and provide guidance and direction to staff
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of the NYSDOT design standards, process and plan preparation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an accredited program
  • Professional Engineer License in New York
  • 15+ years of experience in highway bridge and structure design
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with MicroStation
  • Experience working with NYSDOT, NYSTA and municipal clients on federally aided projects preferred
  • Business development experience preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
