JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Commercial HVAC Truck Based Service Technician: Performs installation, inspection, maintenance and trouble-shooting of industrial and commercial HVAC equipment such as boilers and chillers, light commercial units to include, package, DX and split units. This job requires complete knowledge of air conditioning and the production of chilled water as well as practical mechanical and electrical understanding. Provides leadership and mentors junior personnel to develop appropriate skillsets.  Will use Computer Maintenance Management System IMMS to correctly input data related to maintenance work orders, preventative maintenance inspections, and emergency calls. 

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:  

  • Performs maintenance and repairs on Commercial HVAC systems and components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) to evaluate condition, identify necessary repairs and perform preventive maintenance
  • Fabricate equipment parts to meet specialty needs and/or replace unavailable parts by brazing, welding and soldering
  • Installations of Commercial HVAC equipment and systems to provide enhanced and/or upgraded capabilities
  • Repairs on Commercial HVAC systems and/or components (e.g. pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coils, compressors, piping, etc.)
  • Coordinates with HVAC Supervisor referencing the  completion of projects and work orders efficiently
  • Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures on Commercial HVAC systems down to the component level
  • Tracks performance of routine and preventive maintenance to ensure the availability of HVAC systems
  • Informs management regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations
  • Maintains service vehicle, tools and equipment
  • Candidate must have experience as a Truck based Commercial HVAC Service Technician
  • Prepares written reports (work order status, activity logs, etc.) for documenting activities and/or conveying information
  • Responds to emergency HVAC situations during or after hours to resolve immediate concerns
  • Knowledge of Direct Digital Control Systems (DDC) and their components
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Able to travel at times is a plus

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Candidate must have commercial experience
  • Candidate must have at least 5 yrs. experience as a Truck based Commercial HVAC Service Technician
  • Vocational training required in HVAC or equivalent
  • Possession of a valid driver's permit and ability to pass M.C. Dean's driving requirements
  • Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, and maintenance.
  • Must have excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral 
  • Must have a Top Secret Clearance or the ability to maintain one. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Able to travel at times is a plus

Experience

  • Minimum eight (8) years' experience as a Commercial HVAC technician
  • Previous supervision experience preferred
  • Must possess HVAC Universal Certification, EPA Clean Air Act Section 608
  • Completed HVAC technician apprenticeship program required
  • Must have an excellent understanding of all safety directives and polices regarding the operation of equipment
  • HVAC Master license is a plus
  • Candidate must have experience as a Truck based Commercial HVAC Service Technician

Skills

  • Must have excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral
  • Basic computer and CMMS skills and knowledge of applicable HVAC codes
  • Knowledge of the mechanical operation of equipment such as Chillers, Boilers, split and package HVAC units, and pump systems
  • Skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all types of Commercial HVAC systems
 
Abilities:
  • Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.
  • Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.  It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
  • See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
