1st Shift - HR/Payroll Assistant | Dodge Center, MN

McNeilus Steel, Inc. is currently accepting applications for a new team member to join our Human Resources department. This position works Monday-Friday; 7am to 3:30pm, ending at 3pm on Fridays, with OT as needed.

Nature Of Work
The HR/Payroll Assistant is responsible for being proficient in all components of the payroll department and processes, assisting in these areas as needed. These include maintaining and updating payroll records for computer input with minimal supervision and direction. The Assistant will serve as a proxy for the Payroll Manager and the HR Manager, as needed. The Assistant will be able to process the bi-weekly payroll, maintain payroll records and database system, field employee questions, and maintain the personnel records filing room.

Working Conditions
The HR/Payroll Assistant's job often involves sitting for long periods of time in their own office and standing in a shared file room. The Assistant will work closely with and under the supervision of the HR Manager and Payroll Manager. The Assistant normally works a 40-hour week, but overtime may be common.

Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Responds to requests from employees and external agencies on matters relating to payroll or HR
  • Processes onboarding in UKG workforce management solution, including new hire information, rehire information and terminations
  • Enters deduction amounts for employee insurance, retirement, garnishments, child support, etc
  • Ensures that all employees' timecards and attendance schedules are maintained for bi-weekly payroll
  • Reports all new employees to the state of Minnesota and terminated employees to various child support agencies
  • Enters all new employees into eVerify system
  • Maintains records of employee vacation and personal leave usage and any payouts
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects HR and payroll operations by keeping information confidential
  • Prepares payroll reports regarding wages, benefits, payroll taxes, etc. as requested
  • Processes company benefits regarding enrollments, terminations, and any changes to health, life, and supplemental insurance, flexible spending accounts and retirement plans
  • Maintains the employee personnel files for HR/Payroll documents
  • Works benefit plans' discrepancy reports and make accurate adjustments
  • Assists in communicating with applicants; first contact, scheduling interviews, scheduling drug screens, etc
  • Fields employees' benefit, vacation and personal leave, and payroll questions
  • Assist human resources and payroll departments as needed
  • Use all safety devices, equipment, and PPE as directed and provided for protection
  • Performs other duties as instructed and assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, prefer AA or BA in bookkeeping, accounting, human resource management, or related field
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in fluent English
  • Minimum of two years of experience working within a payroll or HR environment; ideally using UKG software (Kronos or Ultimate Software)
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet strict deadlines
  • On-going knowledge of state/federal government payroll regulations
  • High attention to detail is a must
  • Ability to work well in a team or independent environment
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
