Engineer 2

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs and checks system calculations.
  • Coordinates technical documents with other disciplines/contractors.
  • Participates in supplier meetings, and coordination meetings with other disciplines/contractors.
  • Develops low voltage power systems, and simple schematics.
  • Reviews or prepares basic power system design for underground, cable tray, conduit, grounding, LV distribution, and lighting systems.
  • Uses electrical engineering web sites to access department guides and standards.
  • Interprets mechanical, special, and other miscellaneous equipment schedule, and logic narratives.

Years of Experience:

  • 2-4 years experience.

Formal Education:

  • Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering Degree (BSEE).

This position requires:

  • Familiar with major regulations, and industry codes and standards affecting standard electrical design work.
  • Familiar with M.C. Dean design standards and guides affecting electrical engineering work and standard electrical design tools.
  • Familiar with basic engineering deliverables such as drawings, specifications, calculations, SOPs/MOPs.
  • Familiar with electrical engineering web site and finding engineering guides and standards.
  • Familiar with standard materials and methods of construction, and understands basic work processes related to electrical design.
  • Familiar with supplier capabilities for standard electrical equipment and bulk materials.
  • Understands basic electrical equations for calculating short circuit, motor starting, and voltage drop.
  • Develops awareness of supplier capabilities for electrical equipment and bulk materials.
  • Understands the application of electrical equipment, logic circuits, and the development of schematics.
  • Understands basic power system design for underground, cable tray, conduit, grounding, LV power distribution, and lighting systems, and understands basics of low voltage power systems.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code and Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Occupational Safety and Health required in the design and layout of electrical systems.
  • Uses 2D CAD skills and 3D CAD skills (optional).

Abilities:

  • Exposure to computer screens for an extended period of time.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Reach by extending hands or arms in any direction.
  • Have finger dexterity in order to manipulate objects with fingers rather than whole hands or arms, for example, using a keyboard.
