The Control Technician 5 is responsible for the fabrication of control panels, field installation and commissioning procedures associated with control panels and field instrumentation, troubleshooting & calibration of field instruments, equipment and control panels, testing and analysis, documentation and updating drawings of finished control panels. Care of all M.C. Dean, Inc. provided shop tools, meters, and other associated equipment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
º Interpret electrical control panel drawings. Have the ability to design and layout control panels from conception. Ability to update electrical schematics to reflect finished product. Communicate with CAD draftsman to facilitate drawing updates.
º Ability to select electrical and mechanical components as per specifications and or NEC requirements for control panels. Select enclosure types and sizes as needed per specifications or NEC requirements.
º Ability to fabricate control panels including design, layout, install components, wire and test the finished product.
º Evaluate control panel fabrication to UL508A standards. Update control panel components to standards as needed by selection of UL approved or recognized components.
º Size fusing or circuit breakers for control and power circuits within a control panel to provided specifications and/or NEC code standards.
º Ability to wire, test, and troubleshoot control panels integrated with PLC's, Variable Frequency Drives, and other Solid State control devices manufactured by manufacturers such as Rockwell Automation, Square D/Telemecanique, Siemens, GE, etc.
º Install finished control panel at project site. Commission and test control panel to specifications and document as required.
º Ability to interpret control wiring schemes within an Industrial plant environment. Replace, install, and relocate control circuits and components within an active industrial manufacturing process. Troubleshoot control circuits and components within a live Industrial operational environment.
º Understand and observe Safety practices and procedures for various types of Industrial manufacturing process environments.
Years of Experience:
Prior experience as a Control Technician is desired, but not required.
Formal Education:
The incumbent must have a high school degree or GED with 10 years of experience.
Certifications:
º Obtain, at the Company’s expense, a CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain this certification status while employed by M.C. Dean, Inc.
º Pass a background investigation and drug test.
º Possess a journeyman’s license in at least one jurisdiction in which M.C. Dean, Inc. performs work (Virginia, Maryland or the District of Columbia) (preferred).
Work Experience:
º Knowledge of and ability to interpret control circuits, schematics, and various line diagrams.
º Ability to select various control components needed in the fabrication of Control Panels. To read and prepare a BOM (Bill of Materials) from specifications and/or according to NEC and UL508A standards.
º Ability to size circuit breakers and fuses for control and power circuits according to specifications and/or NEC standards.
º Ability to fabricate control panels including design, layout, and install components.
º Ability to install, wire, and test wiring of PLC's, VFD's, and other Solid State control components.
º Wire control panels and equipment and test circuitry according to specifications and drawings. Commission and document completed control panel or circuits as necessary.
º Knowledge and use multi-function meters and various test equipment necessary to project.
º Understanding of various Industrial automation and control schemes.
º Able to troubleshoot, replace, install, and relocate industrial control circuits and components within various active industrial manufacturing processes and environments.

º Use of laptop PC's with various manufacturer's software packages to check wiring circuits/controls and test PLC's, VFD's, and other Solid State components.
Abilities:
º Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.
º Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
º Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
º Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
º Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
º May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
º Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
