Job Description

Commonwealth Technology, Inc. (CTI) a division of MacAulay-Brown, Inc., an Alion company, is a R&D firm with in house manufacturing capabilities for prototype and low volume production. The candidate for the position must have a good knowledge of finishing/painting of metal and composites.

  • Learn and follow all safety procedures and policies required to fulfill duties.
  • Understand how to properly use all related respirator equipment.
  • Learning all aspects of the Finishing/painting apprentice program.
  • Maintain no less than a "B" average on all academic courses required by the apprentice program.
  • Maintain accurate time keeping for the Apprenticeship log book.
  • Keep tools and finishing equipment clean and well maintained and work area orderly.
  • Learn Preventative Maintenance procedures on equipment.
  • Ability to perform detailed sanding processes.
  • Perform duties in accordance with company policies.
  • Take a proactive approach to continuous improvement including productivity, quality, safety and shop environment.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Learn the proper use of finishing equipment and finishing area including paint booth.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, written and verbal.
  • Ability to identify color variances.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Read and interpret work instructions.
  • Performing other duties as required.

May require occasional work at our facility in Sterling, VA.


  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Good basic math skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Good hand eye coordination
  • Good color matching skills
  • Ability to do multi-step processes
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. and stand for 8 hrs.
  • Willingness to learn and ability to work under close supervision and as part of a team
  • Strong Work ethic
  • Ability to pass respirator training and fit test
