UFCW is seeking an attorney with approximately five or more years of experience in labor and employment law to work as an Assistant General Counsel in its Legal Department. Relevant experience includes practice before NLRB, EEOC and other federal or state agencies, advising labor organizations on internal union matters, including personnel matters, and litigating civil actions on behalf of labor organizations, including claims arising under the LMRA, LMRDA and state and federal employment laws. The successful candidate must have or obtain DC bar membership. Applicants should have a strong academic background as well as excellent research, writing, analytical, advocacy and interpersonal skills. Spanish language proficiency is a plus. Travel is required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Advising union officers and staff on a wide range of legal matters, including collective bargaining negotiations, strikes, organizing campaigns, corporate accountability programs, employment discrimination, immigration, corporate governance and federal election law, personnel matters and internal union affairs.
Representing the International Union and its chartered local unions and councils in legal proceedings before federal or state agencies or courts, particularly matters before the National Labor Relations Board.
