Laulima Government Solutions is looking for Training Instructor Support to work within the on our United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) contract at Fort Detrick, Maryland.

Description of Responsibilities:

The Candidate shall serve as a Field Identification of Biological Warfare Agents (FIBWA) Instructor, conducting courses and research on modern microbiology and molecular techniques, instruments, and protocols for clinical diagnosis and environmental biosurveillance of Biological Warfare Agents.  Will work within BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories (prerequisite training records and prerequisite BPRP status), IAW the provisions of this contract and applicable regulations. 

Tasks include:

  • Provide training support as the assistant instructor for the Field Identification of Biological Warfare Agents (FIBWA) courses (3 designated and ad hoc courses based on customer demand).
  • Prepare course materials prior to each course. Materials will include hardcopy training instructions, all reagents and equipment necessary for course work, and biological samples for analysis.  Workload is minimally eight FIBWA courses per year.
  • Provide both didactic and kinesthetic training on current FIBWA programmatic course material for at least 8 courses per year.
  • Evaluate student performance, for both on-going concept mastery, as well as through tests and situational exercises that demonstrate competency of material taught. Provide course critique summary and metrics for each class conducted.
  • Represent the FIBWA course to other customers through briefings, demonstrations, and participation in working groups or other forums.  Prepare proficiency test (PT) samples per year to support the FIBWA QA/PT program.
  • Participate in the test and evaluation of new technologies and sample processing protocols to improve the FIBWA courses and forward laboratory concept of operations. No less than 2 technical reports will be published each year.
  • Serve on operational mission teams, domestically and internationally as needed, to include performance of a full array of diagnostic support activities at both BSL 2 and BSL 3 level operations. Provide support to BSL-3 laboratory on a quarterly basis.
  • Supplement technical laboratory support to Special Pathogens Laboratory Section of the Department as necessary, occasionally in a BSL3 suite.
  • Hold and maintain BPRP status IAW the provisions in this contract and applicable regulations.
  • Deliver FIBWA Training report outlining progress on all tasks.

Degree/Education/Certification Requirements: 

  • BS + 7 years exp Or
  • MS + 2 years exp

Required Skills and Experience:

  • FIBWA knowledge and instruction experience
  • Significant field training experience
  • Competency training using various formats (ex MS PowerPoint, hard copy, hands on instruction, etc)
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Ability and desire to travel OCONUS
  • Laboratory experience in agent sample processing (field identification & laboratory identification)

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant military experience is preferred

Clearance

  • Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) must be scheduled with OPM to start
