Description: ATA Aerospace, LLC., a Joint Venture of ATA and ASRC Federal Space & Defense, is currently seeking applicants for a Materials Processes Engineer to support various projects at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. A Materials Processes Engineer (MPE) will be responsible for the selection, development, evaluation, control and application of advanced materials and processes (M&P) for aerospace systems and missions with national or international impact.
Duties:


*Lead and direct the development and execution of M&P selection, control, and implementation for in-house spacecraft and instruments, as well as out-of-house missions where prime contractors already have M&P personnel in place.

*Advise project personnel in a broad range of M&P related areas such as chemical analysis, composites, contamination control, environmental effects, failure analysis, glass and ceramics, material joining, material processing, metallurgy, NDE, plating and coatings, polymers, and/or tribology.

*Provide M&P technical expertise to project engineering, including the selection and application of M&P, process development and qualification; drawing, WOA and SOW development, plan and supervise M&P investigations or evaluations.

*Directly responsible for M&P related deliverables, including: M&P Control and Implementation Plans, Materials Identification and Usage Lists, and Materials Usage Agreements. Lead reviews on multiple M&P projects at GSFC and other Centers. Identifies and reports safety hazards and potentially hazardous situations to project managers. Provide expert advice to senior management and agency officials responsible for M&P safety and mission assurance as well as provides oversight to operational engineers responsible for M&P development.

*Support and report at project milestone reviews, management reviews, branch meetings, and Project tag-ups.

*MPE provides M&P related expertise to S&MA, including the suitability of materials and processes; M&P related supply chain issues; and the impact of GIDEP, NASA and other M&P related alerts and advisories.

*Act as a liaison between the projects and the Materials Engineering Branch in resolving materials and processes related issues. In this capacity, the contractor shall perform, but is not limited to, some or all of the following activities: stay abreast of materials Engineering Branch capabilities, apprise project personnel of Materials Engineering Branch capabilities, advise Materials Engineering Branch management of future project requirements, stay abreast of ongoing investigations within the Branch, and notify Materials Engineering Branch management of activities that may have a significant impact on project schedule and or cost.
Qualifications: The engineer should have at least a BS in Materials Engineering or related field and at least 5 years' experience in M&P engineering or related experience. The engineer should have expertise in at least one area of materials science and technology such as aerospace polymer applications, contamination engineering, composites, metallurgy, and cleanroom practices and I&T procedures. The engineer should also have skill in verification of M&P requirements for aerospace systems and missions. The position requires a mastery of the concepts and principles of material engineering to resolve novel or obscure problems; extend and modify techniques; develop new approaches that guide other engineers who solve a variety of technical problems; and/or apply new, innovative, or experimental material engineering theories, developments, or practices to problems or studies not susceptible to treatment by acceptable methods.
