Job Description

Role SynopsisThe Terminal Loader is responsible for handling hazardous and non-hazardous products in a safe, quality, environmentally appropriate manner and compliant with applicable government regulations. Frequently access and work on top of and underneath railcars. Key AccountabilitiesSuccessfully and effectively follow all health, safety, security, environmental (EHS) and operational practices and procedures.Knowledge of terminal equipment, regulatory requirements, terminal maintenance and computer operations.Ability to understand and follow internal and external policies and procedures and recognize out of compliance conditions and implement corrective action.Ability to monitor and maintain equipment in a manner that will allow for safe, efficient operations 24/7.Ability to work alone at times which will require a high level of motivation and initiative.Effectively communicate with Managers, Peers and Contractors as necessary to perform the Terminal Operator role.Ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks.Participate and embrace all safety and quality programsReport all incidents and near misses In addition, the Terminal Loader will perform the following tasks as part of their job responsibilities (not meant to be all inclusive):Perform automatic and manual readings (meters, gauges, etc.) as neededPerform maintenance and housekeeping on various pieces of terminal equipment and/or terminal grounds involving physical labor activities maintaining bathrooms, offices, break rooms and shop areas.Conduct sampling, calibration and other quality assurance activities.Gauge terminal tanks before and aftert receipt of product by railcar when applicableMonitor contractors for adherence to prescribed safety guidelines.Utilize computers to log information and or manually complete paperwork associated with transfer operations.Complete authorization to work permits and other safety related paperwork and procedures such as lock-out/tag-out.Maintain product integrity.Learn and follow government regulations.Provide safety orientations, as appropriate.Perform mechanical and structural ininspections using checklistKeep appropriate documentation up to date, organized, and readily available.Other duties as trained and assigned

Position Requirements

Essential EducationHigh School diploma or GED is required Essential Experience and Job RequirementsMust be at least 18 years old.Must complete a pre-employment application.Applicants subject to background check, pre-employment and random drug screeningMust be able to and willing to work extended hours and overtime as needed.Willing to work non-traditional hours (minimum of 12 hr rotations); schedule to be based on train arrivalMust be able to report for shift with minimal notice (8-12 hrs)Ability to work outside for long periods of time and in any weather conditions.Must be physically qualified, including but not limited to, the ability to lift, carry, push, grip, pull or drag hoses and equipment of up to 80 pounds in weight and climb heights up to 80 feet. Routine walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, squatting, negotiating uneven walking surfaces, ascending and descending ladders/stairs.Must be able to bend and lift up to 16 lbs to chest heightMust be able to climb under railcars to connect loading hoses weighing up to 30lbs.Must have a mechanical aptitude (currently have or capability to develop skills and abilities).Must have good communications skills and technical language with ability to check for understanding to eliminate miscommunications.Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlinesMust have solid math skills (that meet requirements of the job including addition/subtraction, percentages and fractions).Must be able to take direction/supervision and be an effective member of the work teamPossess basic to intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. Preffered Experience, Competencies, Skills and AbilitiesPost High School education in technical crafts or work experience in job duties described above- preferredHazmat and rail yard operation experience - preferredShuttle wagon or locomotive experience - prefferedKnowledge of Liquid Transfer OperationsExperience performing Preventative Equipment Maintenance
