Job Description
Overview:
The 1.3 million members United Food Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), a powerful voice for working men and women is seeking a Deputy Political Director (PAC Director) to develop and deliver the department’s local union training and fundraising programs related to political activism and The Active Ballot Club of UFCW, respectively. Conducts and provides research and analysis on Congressional candidates running for office. This position requires the exercise of discretion.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Designs and implements small and large scale fundraising programs in coordination with UFCW Legislative and Political Action Department and local unions.
  • Develops and delivers Active Ballot Club (ABC) training to local union activists, stewards and staff as needed by the director.
  • Assists Director in fund-raising, disbursement of political funds to candidates and campaigns, and responding to fundraising requests.
  • Assists and trains local unions in fund-raising, disbursing of funds, and responding to fund-raising requests.
  • Works with locals to build out ABC fundraising plans and works hands on with locals to execute those plans.  Provides assessment of what is working and not working.
  • Creates, maintains and revises incentive program to grow the ABC program.
  • Works with the Regional Political Coordinators to develop political reports upon request.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of campaign finance regulations as they apply to UFCW fund-raising and PACs.
  • Works with Director and vendors to develop and implement digital and direct mail election plans.
  • Demonstrates initiative. Organizes time efficiently and works accurately under deadlines.
  • Responsible for candidate screening, candidate endorsement tracking and fundraising request processing in coordination with local unions.
  • Serves as the liaison to select organizations and committees for UFCW.
  • Responsible for researching and tracking federal, state and local elections, including making recommendations for UFCW involvement.
  • Extensive travel and long/irregular hours required, including nights and weekends.
Qualifications:
5-7 years of fundraising experience; demonstrated low dollar fundraising ability, program and plan design and implementation. Experience in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint is required. Strong writing skills are required. Strong oral presentations skills are required. Must be able to learn to make effective oral presentations and trainings to groups or individuals. Fluent in Spanish is a plus.
 
Must have a thorough understanding of Federal Election Commission (FEC) law, regulations concerning Political Action Committees (PAC), and their interaction with state election and financial disclosure law. Must be able to quickly learn their interaction with the labor movement. Ability to work independently. Must have initiative. Must be able to use discretion, handle sensitive situations and recognize when to refer to a higher level.
 
Must have the ability to do advance information gathering and analysis. Must be organized and responsive to deadlines. Must be able to complete projects on multiple timelines. Must be able to field and respond quickly to requests for information from union officers or representatives.
