Job Description

Summary

The Multimedia Specialist II position is responsible for supporting the NC ECDTL’s efforts to provide ongoing TA, materials and resources to the EHS/HS/Child Care community and larger early childhood field by co-leading the Media and Design Team to maintain and update the NC ECDTL website to ensure a robust array of early childhood related resources; and for ensuring a strong presence on the OHS Early Childhood Knowledge and Learning Center (ECLKC) website. This position will serve as the point of contact with the contractor responsible for the ECLKC; and is responsible for working closely with the Librarian to ensure consistency of materials on the websites. This position will also design and develop online interfaces and resources for posting on the NC ECDTL website and Early Childhood Learning and Knowledge Center (ECLKC) website, mobile applications, and produce promotional videos and social media campaigns. This position will also serve as the technical liaison for all other NC ECDTL interactive technical services. The Multimedia Specialist II will serve as an integral part of the NC ECDTL team, contributing to other duties as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Co-lead the Media and Design Team, including serving as technical, design, and branding lead on Center team for all multimedia products
  • Develops plan for the use of multimedia to optimize dissemination of resources developed or modified by the project
  • Serve as technical contact to ECLKC design staff to ensure online product compatibility
  • Set graphic and design standards for Center
  • Provide technical and design input and guidance for multimedia products including video, audio and photos
  • Design layouts for Center publications
  • Create new, and update older graphics for Center website and other related materials
  • Prepare web and mobile ready content
  • Edit and design multimedia products including video, audio files, interactive web-based product
  • Interface with multimedia vendors
  • Ensure robust presence of birth to five resources on the ECLKC by working with content specialists to identify resources for posting to websites, regularly post resources developed by the Center
  • Contribute to the biennial live and virtual national conferences and other regional and national training events as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned for the purposes of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the program.
 

Skills and Experience

  • Skilled in the use of Photo editing and multimedia software (I.e. Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, InDesign, Audition, Flash, Premiere, and After Effects, Streaming Audio and Video);
  • Skilled in the internet and use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Access, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Outlook;
  • Possess a solid understanding of current web standards, web browser compatibility, 508 compliance regulations, and proficient knowledge of HTML/XHTML, XML, JavaScript, and CSS;
  • Possess a solid understanding of user experience, responsive design and mobile-readiness;
  • Possess a solid understanding of branding;
  • Proficient in use of technology as a tool to support learning;
  • Proficient in web-based research strategies;
  • Understands the effectiveness of multimedia for a brand and its important role in creating an effective, memorable product
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent conceptual, written and oral skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, detailed oriented and effective time management skills;
  • Ability to grasp early childhood issues. Must demonstrate the ability to understand and interpret the organization’s message;
  • Highly motivated, creative and flexible under pressure with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
  • Proficiency with a variety of computer applications and design software, including but not limited to: HTML editor, such as Dreamweaver, and other related programs;
  • Ability to be flexible; and
  • Ability to Travel.

Education

Bachelor’s degree level of education (early childhood highly desirable, but not required); or equivalent experience


Physical Requirements


While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is frequently required to use finger dexterity as well as sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. Also may need to remain seated for long periods of time, have the ability to

perform repetitive motions, and hold a writing instrument. The employee may be required to walk, grasp objects, push or pull objects, bend, squat, reach, stand, or kneel. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for expansive reading.

Working Conditions

The work conditions described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job. The incumbent typically works indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels.
