Summary
HealthySteps is a unique, evidence-based pediatric primary care program committed to healthy early childhood development and effective parenting so that all children are ready for kindergarten and success in life. The HealthySteps Development Manager, Proposals & Grants will lead ZTT’s efforts to secure funding to advance the HealthySteps program. identify and respond to funding opportunities from private foundations and government agencies, coordinate and manage the internal proposal development process; pro-actively seek new sources of foundation and government funds; build relationships with foundation and contract officers, facilitate connections between these officers, Program and Policy staff with the appropriate content knowledge; and develop cultivation strategies that allow ZTT to expand the HealthySteps program nationwide. In partnership with the Chief Development Officer, the HealthySteps Development Manager will evaluate current processes and procedures related to proposal development and ensure the best possible strategy is established for increasing this funding stream for the organization.
 
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities 

Research and Cultivation
  • Identify and research availability of foundation and government funds, in response to resource needs, as anticipated by HealthySteps staff;
  • Pro-actively research new sources of foundation and government revenues, on a regular basis;
  • Communicate regularly with ZTT’s current contracts and grants officers and HealthySteps staff;
  • Monitor web sites and other sources for RFP announcements and inform Program and Policy staff of relevant RFPs;
  • Arrange meetings as needed for Executive Director, HealthySteps National Director and other staff, as well as the Director of Public Policy and Program/Policy staff with representatives from foundations and public funding agencies
 Strategic Fundraising Priorities
  • Work with Chief Development Officer, HealthySteps National Director, and Chief Financial Officer to develop annual funding plans for HealthySteps.  Review plans with staff on a quarterly basis.
  • Facilitate and inform team-based discussion with senior staff in making decisions about whether to pursue funding opportunities.

Proposal Development

  • Serve as primary liaison with funders as ZTT responds to RFPs, and seeks feedback on proposals. 
  • Coordinate all RFP application activities, including planning, writing, document gathering, internal and external communications and final submissions;
  • Serve as primary writer and editor for all applications and proposals, working with relevant HealthySteps staff;
  • Work with financial staff and relevant HealthySteps staff to develop accurate budget information for all proposal applications;
  • Supervise final production, ensuring relevant attachments are included; oversee mailing and/or electronic submission of proposals.

 Reporting Requirements

  • Communicate with grant/contract points of contact, in conjunction with HealthySteps staff, as appropriate; 
  • Support all aspects of interim and final reports to funding agencies;
 
Communications
  • Develop and implement strategies for communicating regularly with ZTT foundation and government agency funders
 
Miscellaneous
  • Ensure all grant and contract files are updated and accurate.
  • Maintain records detailing foundation contacts, proposals, and communications
  • Serve as member of appropriate project teams in the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the project. 

Knowledge, Skills, Education

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Foundation and government application processes and contracts management;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Foundation and government funding streams and cycles;
  • From 5 to 7 years of documented development experience/accomplishments focusing on identification and attraction of both public and private funds;
  • Knowledge of early childhood issues and fundraising in healthcare and pediatric settings a plus;
  • Experience in proposal writing and development for private and government grants and contracts;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to learn ZTT’s content issues quickly and as needed;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented office;
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision;
  • Ability to build relationships with a variety of people, from ZTT staff to representative from foundations and government agencies;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Must be creative and a self-starter.

Education
Bachelor’s Degree in related field
 
Physical Requirements
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is constantly required to perform repetitive motions and use finger dexterity as well as sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. Also, must remain seated for long periods of time.  Employee is frequently required to grasp objects and utilize a writing instrument, as well as communicate with others and hear well enough to detect nuances and receive detailed information. The employee may be required to walk, reach with arms and hands, pull objects, bend, push objects, squat, stand or kneel. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for data preparation or analysis, and expansive reading.  Must have the ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
 
Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is expected to travel and will be exposed to outside environmental conditions during those times.  The work conditions described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job. The incumbent typically works indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels.
