Job Description
This position provides operational, research and development and training support along with subject matter expert advice and decision support to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) as part of its 24/7/365 Reachback contract.
The successful candidate will be team-oriented and possess strong multi-tasking abilities. The ideal candidate will use applied knowledge to develop, integrate, test, verify, validate and apply CBRNE software/scenarios based on results of experiments and predicted phenomena based on theoretical and computational methods. Work closely with other engineering groups to define the modeling objectives, obtain the required model inputs and outputs, and verify and validate results. Present modeling results and decision support aid to both internal and external customers in the form of written reports and oral presentations. Review technical work of other engineers performing modeling projects. Shift work is required.
The successful candidate will provide general knowledge and provide subject matter expertise as a structural engineer, evaluating the technical development of an antiterrorism, vulnerability assessment and protection-planning tool for use by the Department of Defense and responding to inquiries from government and civilian agencies. The candidate will liaison with governmental agencies and research organizations. Performs complex engineering and scientific analyses and conducts special studies. Prepares scientific reports, technical support to software engineers, and performs independent verification/validation of CBRNE effects models.
Candidate must have at least an MS Degree in structural, design or demolition engineering, along with at least 0-2 years of relevant experience in their field. Professional Engineer Certification is preferred. Strong communication skills, both orally and verbally, technical presentation, teamwork mentality, graphic visualization and Microsoft Office proficiency skills are required.
Structural engineering experience preferably in design, engineering, vulnerability assessment, and construction of buildings and facilities is desired. Experience in programs or activities associated with weapon effects, other weapons-of-mass destruction, demolition sciences. Working knowledge and experience in Vulnerability Assessment tools preferred (VAPO and IMEA software tools a plus). Preferred candidate will have a background in targeting and/or explosives.
Although not explicitly required (though preferred), candidates with experience in areas related to Combating WMD threats (primarily through modeling and simulation and/or test experience) would be a plus as well as having a working knowledge of using GIS tools in an operational environment.
The successful applicant must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain and/or maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance.
