Company History

The Early Years
Fidelity Engineering Corporation was founded in 1945 by the late Clarence W. Hottel Sr. Clarence had worked for the Carrier Corporation specializing in low temperature refrigeration, including top secret projects that were instrumental to America’s victory in World War II. Armed with an entrepreneurial spirit, and the desire to personally introduce air conditioning and refrigeration to commercial clients in Baltimore, Clarence founded Fidelity Engineering Corporation. The advent of air conditioning was transforming businesses and lifestyles everywhere, making it hard to keep up with the demand. Fidelity Engineering quickly became the expert in design, installation and service for air conditioning and refrigeration systems in the Baltimore area.

The Middle Years
As Fidelity Engineering was maturing, so was the Hottel family. Clarence’s sons, Clarence Jr. (Bill) and Jim, joined the company and expanded Fidelity into new markets, including turn-key data center design and installations. Precision power and air conditioning were necessary to support the latest mainframe computers and storage devices. Technology was now the driver in transforming business and Fidelity Engineering was there to provide the necessary reliable infrastructure. Because of the increasing need for back up power systems within critical facilities, Fidelity sought and was awarded the exclusive distributorship for Kohler Generators and Power Systems in our local market.

Today
Fidelity Engineering today is a customer-focused solutions provider specializing in Emergency Power Systems and Building Mechanical Systems throughout the entire Mid-Atlantic Region. Fidelity Power Systems is one of the nation’s largest distributors and service providers for Kohler Generators and Power Systems. Fidelity Mechanical Services is the region’s premier provider for Design-Build HVAC Systems and Services, including Building Automation Systems, turn-key Mission Critical Facilities & Infrastructures, and Energy Solutions. We are a dedicated team of over 350 employees who continually school ourselves in the latest technologies so, just like our founders, we can truly deliver value to our clients.
