Overview

The Ophthalmic Assistant - Eye Clinic performs a variety of duties under the supervision of the Ophthalmologist/Optometrist and/or RN Clinic Leader to support patient care functions in the Eye Clinic. Provides age-appropriate care to patients from the age of birth through 21 years, and select adult patients

Responsibilities

  • Tests visual acuity, stereo vision, and color vision. Conducts visual field testing using both the Goldman Perimeter and Humphrey Visual Fields Analyzer
  • Evaluates ocular anatomy, ocular motility and papillary responses. Assists physicians with exams and procedures as needed
  • Performs autorefraction
  • Performs ophthalmic photography both external and fundus photos
  • Accurately records information in EMR according to established standards and physician’s requirements
  • Cares for and maintains ophthalmic instruments and equipment
  • Provides instruction to patient/care giver within the limits of his/her knowledge as directed by the physician.

Qualifications

Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

Certifications: Certification as a COA, required within one year of hiring.

Skills:
• Strong written and verbal communications, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Positive customer service skills.
