Description

Nitsch Engineering is looking for a Structural Engineer to join our team in one of three of our Massachusetts offices in Boston, Worcester, or Lawrence.  
Responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee all aspects of Structural engineering projects for local and state government clients
  • Staff and supervise the project team (including subconsultants), coordinating their efforts, mediating any disagreements, mentoring staff, and making decisions which best reflect the interest of both the company and its’ clients
  • Review projects for compliance with company policies and standards
  • Perform technical quality control reviews
  • Confer with the client and obtain timely decisions and approvals to ensure projects flows smoothly
  • Oversee the preparation of construction documents, specifications, estimates, and engineering reports
  • Perform structural analysis and prepare preliminary and final designs
  • Develop new business and serve as the face of Nitsch for conferences and professional organizations
  • Prepare proposals and budgets
  • Supervise Structural Engineers and Designers
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a Structural focus
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Massachusetts or ability to obtain MA PE within one year if licensed in another state
  • 15+ years within structural design, recent experience as a Project Manager, preferred
  • Thorough familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D and structural software such as STAAD, AASHTOWare bridge rating, and Bentley’s Bridge Design
  • Familiarity with building design codes and MassDOT’s bridge design policies and guidelines
  • Knowledge of project management roles and responsibilities and a history of successful client management
  • Ability to see the big picture and create staffing plans to adequately staff both current and future projects 
  • Experience in performing and overseeing analysis and design, preparing calculations, developing details, preparing specifications and estimates as well as directing the preparation of bid documents is required
  • Advanced understanding of project metrics, including scope, budget, multiplier, additional service needs, and programs used to track metrics
  • Experience with construction administration services including interpreting design intent, evaluating construction for compliance with contract documents, and directing of engineering support personnel
  • Experience in preparing proposals, business development, and the ability to make public presentations
