Purpose of Position
The School of Media and Communication in the College of Informatics at Northern Kentucky University seeks candidates for a full-time, Professor of Practice position in Journalism. Housed in the state-of-the-art Griffin Hall, it is located only 10 minutes south of Cincinnati, OH. Students and faculty are connected to a region that provides a variety of internships, experiential media projects, and collaborative opportunities.

This position will meet a critical need in the School of Media and Communication by providing teaching and professional expertise in Journalism and serving as the adviser to The Northerner, an independent, student-run news organization, and Norse Code Radio, a student-run online radio station. The individual occupying this position will teach some combination of the following: news media workshop, advanced news media workshop, news writing, reporting, copy editing and design, digital publishing, multimedia journalism, data journalism, and media research. They should demonstrate excellent classroom abilities, along with strong media management skills and a working knowledge of media law. As part of the adviser role, they will provide oversight in budget management, mentoring, coaching, and instruction to students involved in Northern Kentucky University’s student media.

Primary Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:
· Teach a 2-2 load (fall-spring) of Journalism courses in the Media & Journalism Program with a focus primarily on journalism skills courses in face to face, hybrid, and/or fully online formats.
· Provide administrative support, guidance and coordination for The Northerner, an independent, student-run news organization, and Norse Code Radio, the student-run online radio station.
· Advise students on legal and ethical journalistic guidelines.
· Maintain a solid infrastructure and innovative business plan to grow and sustain student media with student leaders (and other stakeholders in student media)
· Maintain office hours in line with department policies.
· Attend required department-wide and college-wide meetings.
· Participate in course assessment, as needed.
· Establish and maintain working relationships with a diverse group of staff, students, and faculty.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
· Applicants with a Master’s degree or equivalent level of experience in journalism or a closely related field with significant professional journalism experience will be considered.
· Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate education and teaching effectiveness.
· Ability to teach current courses in our undergraduate catalog.
· A commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in news writing and publishing.
2. Experience in multimedia or multiplatform publishing.
3. A record of successful teaching.
