Job Summary

We're seeking qualified applicants for substitute After-School Leader positions with the County After School Activities (CASA) program and Youth After School (YAS) program. CASA and YAS are highly respected afterschool programs serving Loudoun County's elementary and middle school-aged youth for over 30 years. Our team embraces the uniqueness of each child, inclusive of all individual abilities or needs. After School Leader assists in the planning and implementation of recreational activities such as indoor and outdoor games, arts and crafts, holiday-themed and special projects, as well as quieter activities like snacks and homework time for children.

Substitute positions are available at various sites in Loudoun County. Applicants must be willing to work at multiple programming sites. Options are listed in the supplemental questions of the application.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead recreational program for children by following curriculum, complying with licensing standards, training, performance, and conflict resolution applications.
  • Facilitate activities, group games, and reading time following curriculum plans and the needs of the children.
  • Provide a welcoming and safe environment for children and assist with daily health checks, and handle food service items and emergency procedures.
  • May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment.

Please include all employment and volunteer experience working with or supervising children in childcare, recreation, and educational settings.

The CASA program operates Monday-Friday, 2:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m., and the YAS program operates Monday-Friday 3:15 pm - 6:15 pm, following the Loudoun County's Public School's academic (10 Months) year calendar. 

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma and six (6) months of experience supervising children during recreational or educational activities.

OR applicants with no experience can also be hired at a lower grade 108 in an After-School Aide position if meets the Virginia state licensing minimum requirement of 16 years of age. Options are listed in the supplemental questions of the application.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One-year programmatic experience, including previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  • Skilled in using iPad, phone, and laptop.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

  • Pass pre-employment fingerprinting and Child Protective Services (CPS) background checks.
  • First Aid (Infant through Adult)/CPR certifications prior to hire or immediately upon hire.
  • Pass TB test within 30 days of hire and each year thereafter.
  • Must be willing to attend 24 hours of paid annual programmatic training during the school year to enhance skills and knowledge of school-aged childcare and programming.
  • Must be physically able to keep up with participants and lift 50 pounds.
  • OSHA (Bloodborne pathogens) training within 30 days of hire.
  • MAT training within 90 days of hire.
  • Complete County e-learning and MOAT training requirements.
  • Must annually complete a sworn disclosure statement or affirmation disclosing any criminal convictions or pending criminal charges.

Benefits elgibility for temporary employees are dependent on duration of assignment and number of scheduled hours.
