SPA assists the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in developing leading edge technologies to counter WMD in support of CCMDs and transitioning these technologies to military services and COCOMs. SPA provides expertise across the full range of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosives (CBRNE) WMD, Counter Improvised Threat and Countering Threat Network technologies to support understanding, detection, identification, characterization, denial, control, disabling, defeating, disposing, safeguarding the force, managing consequences, and test and evaluation in support of military and civilian operations.

Responsibilities

Serves as a technical/scientific resource on projects by providing R&D analysis to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), Research and Development-Chemical Biological Department (RD-CB), Digital Battlespace Management Division (CBI).  Supports management of technical projects developing situational awareness tools and algorithms which improve understanding of and decisions in CB contested environments.  Prepares technical documentation and presentations to explain approaches, associated assumptions, and conclusions of scientific investigations. Reviews proposals, technical reports, experimental or theoretical techniques, scientific studies, and statements of work to ensure technical validity to evaluate current and future CBRN technologies. Assists leadership with decision-making analyses.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in STEM fields. Acceptable fields include but are not limited to data science and physical sciences (e.g., chemistry, physics, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry,  chemical engineering)
  • Demonstrated understanding of scientific principles
  • Broad interdisciplinary knowledge in a minimum of two of the following fields: physical science, data science, cognitive science, brain computer interface, modeling and simulation, algorithm development, extended reality, or robotics
  • Ability to expand beyond educational background with critical and analytical thinking
  • Self-starter, self motivated, problem solver, Team player
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to use basic Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Skype)
  • Secret Clearance (must be able to obtain Top Secret)

 

Desired:

  • Master of Science degree in a STEM field with 5 years of experience
  • Knowledge of, or experience in the DoD Chemical Biological Defense Program (CBDP). CWMD, CBRN response
  • Knowledge of, or experience in federal/DOD acquisition
  • Military or prior DoD experience
  • Top Secret clearance
