Job Description
Interns working under the direction of CER staff will assist with environmental restoration projects. Most days are labor intensive while working outdoors in all weather conditions. Highly rewarding restoration work in natural settings that will be permanently protected for future generations. Opportunities to advance in pay based upon increasing skills and responsibilities. Highest performing students may be offered up to 35 hours of employment during the Summer semester. Typically hire new technicians each semester and Summer. Hiring decisions finalized about three weeks prior to start of semester/Summer. Challenging conditions include heavy lifting and/or exertion, poison ivy, ticks, heat/cold, etc. Herbicide applicator training and license provided. 


Primary Responsibilities
Field work typically includes stream restoration (constructing rock structures, stabilizing stream banks), erosion control (installation of erosion control fabric, mulch, and sowing and planting native trees, herbs, and grasses), and riparian habitat restoration (exotic invasive plant species control, tree planting, native seed collection/processing/sowing). May also assist with environmental assessment macroinvertebrates collection, stream habitat assessment, plant surveys, and topographic surveys. Interns may use chain saws, backpack sprayers, hand or power tools, survey equipment, GPS, tablet computers, compact construction equipment. Interns may process data using Excel spreadsheets and/or GIS
Qualifications
Any student interested in environmental restoration with the desire and ability to perform physically demanding labor is invited to apply. Preference may be given to students pursuing environmental science or natural science degrees with the intention of seeking a career in environmental restoration. Minimum GPA 2.0. Must be able to lift up to and above 50 lbs. Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, and/or walk for an extended period of time. Must have a valid driver’s license.
