Job Description
University Housing operates service desks (at Boothe and East Village), staffed by Student Desk and Mail Assistants. Desk and Mail Assistants are an integral part of the University Housing Office. They are employees who have direct and constant student contact.

Their primary responsibilities are to act as facilitators for the residential community and are responsible for residential student mail. The Desk and Mail Assistants articulate to students the values, philosophy, and policies of University Housing and the University, and represent the University Housing Office as a role model in all facets of University life.

The two basic roles of the Desk Assistants are being a resource and an administrator. Desk and Mail Assistants should have effective verbal and written communication skills.
Primary Responsibilities
Desk Assistant is regularly required to:
  • Effectively communicate and give directions
  • Read documents such as policy and procedure manuals
  • Prepare reports and correspondences
  • Use a Master key system
  • Respond to duty situations according to University protocol
  • Work without continuous supervision
  • Meet deadlines set by the coordinator
  • Respond immediately to issues and concerns during conferences
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Perform check-ins and check-outs for summer conference groups, summer housing students, and fall residents
  • Prepare, distribute and wash linen packets
  • Complete Room inventories and inspections
  • Serve night and weekend duty on a rotating system
  • Provide housekeeping services when needed
  • Move laundry from various buildings
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, able to move through three story building via stairs, able to climb and descend stairs while carrying supplies, materials, and/or furniture as needed.
Qualifications
IMPORTANT:
Previous experience working and/or living in residential housing at NKU is preferred. Must be currently enrolled NKU student registered for classes for Fall 2023.

A 2.3 cumulative and semester GPA for undergraduate candidates. Must be able to perform physical tasks.

Must be available to attend weekly staff meetings and work some nights and weekends. In addition, students must be in good standing with the university financially and behaviorally.
