Work Schedule | Approximately 10 hours per week, not to conflict with consultant’s class schedule, depending on consultant availability and Writing Center needs. |
Job Description | Be a consultant for NKU students on written assignments for any course. Discuss assignment instructions, rhetorical situation, purpose and thesis; develop goals for session with the student; provide reader response to student’s work. |
Primary Responsibilities | Tutor NKU students who request assistance in improving their writing skills on specific writing assignments; maintain accurate records. Weekly mandatory trainings Fridays at 3:00 pm. |
Qualifications | Writing Center consultants must carry 6 or more semester credit hours during time of employment (3 credit hours for graduate students); GPA of 3.50 or higher; 30 or more undergraduate semester credit hours earned including ENG 101 & ENG 102/291W or HNR 101 & 102 or equivalent; excellent writing and oral communication skills; faculty recommendation (not required at time of application). Faculty recommendation form is available at the Learning PLUS website: https://inside.nku.edu/plus/tutoring/resources.html Faculty can send the completed form to writingcenter@nku.edu. Please list professional, not personal, references. Positions are few and candidates many, so early applications have an advantage. Considered applicants will be invited to a face-to-face interview.
