Position Summary

The Department of Visual Arts at Anne Arundel Community College is seeking qualified candidates for Digital Design part-time Instructors to teach one to two courses per semester in person. 

The Digital Design Instructor will teach fundamental design principles, concepts, processes, and tools used by artists and designers working with digital media. The Digital Design Instructor will lead students in developing the skills to create digital images and artwork while emphasizing the conceptual basis for design in all its forms. The class explores contemporary digital culture and history while producing original design portfolio projects. The Digital Design Instructor will follow the established curriculum, engage students in hands-on projects, and provide guidance on industry-standard software and techniques.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Teach digital design courses based on the community college's curriculum and class schedule, ensuring alignment with learning objectives and course outcomes. 

Plan and deliver dynamic and engaging lectures and demonstrations that teach the elements and principles of design and how to effectively apply them to projects. 

Instruct students on the use of Photoshop and Illustrator. 

Facilitate hands-on learning experiences, including design projects, assignments, and critiques, to enhance students' practical, conceptual, and professional skills. 

Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages collaboration, critical thinking, and experimentation in digital design. 

Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work, guiding them in developing their design skills, aesthetics, and problem-solving abilities. 

Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress in accordance with college policies. 

Provide regular communication and availability to answer student questions. 

Follow college policies and guidelines regarding academic integrity, student conduct, and classroom management. 

Required Qualifications:

Candidates should have a master's degree and at least two years' full-time professional work experience in a design-related field, OR a bachelor's degree and five years' work experience. 

Strong proficiency with Photoshop and Illustrator. 

Solid understanding of the elements and principles of design and how to apply them to conceptual solutions to design problems. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and support students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels. 

Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and utilize active learning strategies. 

Passion for teaching and inspiring students to think creatively, critically, and conceptually.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching in higher education or industry training programs is preferred but not required. 

Master's degree preferred.
