Job Description

Concentric Methods is seeking a Researcher to join our team in Bethesda, MD in support of the NIH.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform PET/CT equipment calibrations and quality checks adhering to quality assurance guidelines collect accurate data.
  • Operate and troubleshoot scanning equipment inside the ABSL-3 environment replacing parts if directed by remote engineers.
  • Operate PET/CT imaging and scanning equipment on the NIH campus and in the ABSL-3.
  • Interact with service engineers, schedule periodic maintenance and chaperone these engineers in the ABSL-3 and maintain records for the equipment.
  • Work with radioactive chemicals.
  • Work in an ABSL-3 suite on site with some animal contact.
  • Perform attachment of monitoring probes for respiratory gating, temperature, blood CO2 and oxygen concentration to animals and correct/replicable positioning of animals on the scanner bed.
  • Perform maintenance of radioactivity usage and disposal records; understanding and adherence to NIH radiation usage policies/procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Perform calculation of drug doses and injection volumes from prepared formulas.
  • Perform and learn F18-FDG dosing and IV injection into live animals under the NIH radiation usage policies/procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain files of images created by the PET/CT and transfer the images to a clearly maintained filing system for collaborators to access.
  • Collect and interpret results using commercial quantitative software to produce files of measurements of FDG activity or CT density.
  • Attend and participate in presentation of imaging data and measurements at in-house meetings and video conferences.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. High school diploma plus 4 years of specialized experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in lab setting.
  • Certification or licensure in nuclear medicine or Computer tomography or digital x-ray encouraged but not required.
  • Knowledge and prior experience operating imaging equipment or similar computer run systems.
  • Knowledge of human and/or mammalian anatomy particularly in the chest.
  • Experience in placing or injecting into IV catheters in animals or humans encouraged.
  • Prior experience working with primates or large animals ideal.
  • Knowledge of methods for compiling multiple CSV files into single datasets by coding in R or another programing language useful but not required.
  • Highly proficient computer skills and excellent ability to learn new computer skills.
  • Independently, occasional remote work with computer systems allowed, but in-person work in the ABSL-3 environment required on weekly basis.
  • Effective and clear communication skills and the ability to work in a high stress environment.
  • Good ability to understand and troubleshoot complex equipment.
  • Ability to work in a team under oversight in ABSL-3 laboratory environments following SOPs.
  • Ability to work independently on computers, software, and with imaging data to organize and create large datasets for analysis and conduct the analysis.
  • Must be able to pass extensive background check and Public Trust 5 clearance.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, rare weekend work possible.
