Fueled by the Verizon 5G future, the New Business Incubation team is anchored in Verizon's Corporate Strategy organization with a mission to: Scale new software automation businesses fueled by the power of the 5G future. This unique charter, paired with the strength of Verizon's best-in-class network, broad customer base and massive technological capabilities, puts the New Business Incubation team at the forefront of innovation as we embark on the 5G future.

Comprised of passionate and forward-thinking leaders, the New Business Incubation team includes ecosystem builders and industry experts in location technology, robotics, digital twins, fleet management, energy transformation, industrial IoT and other emergent technologies. With a belief that the autonomous future sits at the intersection of intelligent networking, devices and software, the team is working to shepherd customers through their digitization journeys to enable the connection, management and operation of physical and digital elements needed for the Industry 4.0 future. The combination of these technologies will transform Industry to deliver new levels of efficiency, intelligence and business outcomes in productivity, experiences and safety.

We are looking for a strategy professional who is passionate about next generation technologies to join the NBI Strategy, Finance, and Operations portfolio strategy team reporting to the Head of Portfolio Strategy. This role will focus on building and managing the cycle/framework that enables NBI to execute on its 5 year strategy across its portfolio of 5G-based software including robotics, location services, sensor intelligence, adaptive manufacturing and other emerging technologies. As a part of the NBI Strategy, Finance, and Operations team, this role requires an exceptionally energetic self-starter with significant experience developing and executing on business strategies. You will be energized by a fast-paced and fluid working environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams, driven by continuous improvement and operating with a "no task is too small" attitude.

Due to the cross-functional nature of the portfolio strategy team, collaboration will be a key factor for team success. Working teams will be formed consisting of team members, colleagues across NBI, and stakeholders in the greater Verizon organization. While individual members may have responsibility and accountability over certain aspects of deliverables and team functions, there will be many parties that will support, consult, and inform along the way. Team members will be expected to manage these relationships and synthesize the myriad of perspectives to provide the team's committed and aligned deliverables.

By design, the portfolio strategy team has a broad remit, however the organization is lean. As such, members of the team will be expected to be adaptable and action-oriented in order for the team to accomplish its goals and charter. Members will have roles and responsibilities that are clear and transparent, however strategy work is dynamic by nature. Team members are expected to embrace work outside of their role boundaries and apply an action-oriented mindset to meet team commitments.

  • Define and manage NBI's strategy governance process.
  • Define NBI-wide KPI's and shared goals/OKR's and design, develop, and execute all related processes.
  • Drive SFO's internal governance and execution.
  • Identify and implement NBI operational model improvements.
  • Work with NBI Strategic Planning and Finance functional units to develop comprehensive five-year planning process.
  • Synthesize and analyze quantitative and qualitative research and data sets into insights and/or hypotheses that support initiatives, implications and/or recommendations.
  • Appropriately engage leadership to help remove hurdles, get buy-in and drive influence to help accelerate forward progress.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the NBI's strategy process and how it should be used.
  • Prepare of material for senior management and board presentations.
  • Lead in special projects as needed.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, and/or Engineering.
  • MBA or equivalent degree from a top-tier program.
  • Management consulting, investment banking, or internal strategy experience.
  • Demonstrated experience solving complex, ambiguous, and analytically challenging problems.
  • A passion for arriving at the answer through independent research, financial analysis, competitive benchmarking and data manipulation, always fact-based in forming hypotheses.
  • Experience manipulating and deriving insights from big data sets using visualization tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx and/or QlikView.
  • An ability to synthesize information, frame issues strategically, and present findings and insights.
  • An understanding of new technologies that disrupt existing industries and create new ones.
  • Prior experience in the technology and/or telecom sector.
  • In-depth understanding of telecom and media landscape (e.g., the players, key trends).
  • Strong research, quantitative analysis and financial/statistical modeling skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to create effective and engaging PowerPoint presentations.
