Purpose of Position
The Department of Physics, Geology, and Engineering Technology seeks to create a database of potential part-time instructors who are qualified to teach courses in engineering technology. Note that there is not a specific position associated with this posting. Applications will be used to create a database of potential instructors.
Primary Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities include
· For labs: (1) creating a syllabus and schedule of labs in consultation with the course coordinator and lecture instructor, (2) setting up lab equipment before and taking it down after each class, (3) supervising and guiding students during class, (4) grading work turned in by students, and (5) entering grades in the Canvas learning management system.
· For lectures: (1) creating a syllabus and schedule that matches the course description and satisfies learning objectives in consultation with the course coordinator, if applicable, and program director, (2) working with lab instructors to set schedule of lab exercises, grading expectations, etc., if applicable, (3) holding classes as scheduled, (4) assigning and grading homework, (5) writing and grading exams, (6) using the Canvas learning management system, and (7) reporting attendance and submitting mid-term and final grades on time.
· For both: being available one hour per week outside of the scheduled course meeting time to answer student questions.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following minimum educational qualifications:
(1) Master’s degree
(2) At least 18 credit-hours graduate coursework in engineering, in engineering technology, or in a related field or equivalent in work experience.
