The Small Baby Coordinator (SBC) ensures high standards of Small Baby care practice, pertinent clinical education programs, data collection, and provides age appropriate care for pediatric patients and select adult patients and their families. The SBC fosters effective communication among health care professionals and serves as a liaison to the other Neonatal Intensive Care Units with babies less than 27 weeks gestational age. The SBC collaborates with the Small Baby medical team and other administrators of affiliated departments in the development, implementation, and evaluation of all program components. The SBC develops and implements clinical educational programs for patients, parents and families, hospital staff, and community health personnel under the direction of Small Baby Medical Director and Neonatal Nursing Director.

1. The SBC implements and supports the philosophy, mission, values, standards, policies and procedures of Nationwide Children's Hospital and Neonatal Services Division

2. Facilitates the development and review of Small Baby I, II, and III guidelines

3. Collaborates with the Small Baby team to plan and develop program goals and services, and measure and evaluate outcomes.

4. Analyzes patient data and clinical trends and recommends changes to improve outcomes and support research development.

5. Acts as a resource to members of the health care team in providing patient, family, and staff with information regarding diagnosis, treatments, and therapeutic trends in specialty area.

6. Provides staff education to C units (mainly B/C)

7. Analyzes clinical trends and data to identify patterns for continuous quality improvement studies and/or research.

8. Assists with interim and final reports as required by program and/or funding sources.

9. Actively pursues education and knowledge related to specialty are and health care market.

10. Should be able to perform duties of bedside care nurse

11. Supports and advances small baby care practice through one or more of the following:

a. Participates as a conference speaker/presenter

b. Presents to community groups

c. Participates in professional organizations and activities

d. Participates on committees, task forces and advisory boards (department, hospital, community)

e. Participates on appropriate quality teams

f. Participates in scholarly activities

g. Publishes in journals, newsletters

12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Reports administratively to Director of Neonatal Services (with dotted line to Program Manager, Acute NICU) Collaborates with the Small Baby Medical Director

Knowledge, skills and abilities required
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing with a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree
Current license to practice nursing in the State of Ohio
3-5 years of Level IIIC or IV Neonatal intensive Care nursing experience
Effective customer service, communication (oral, written, presentation) and interpersonal skills required for interaction with contacts.
Professionally appropriate analytical and organizational skills required.

Minimum Physical Requirements
Must be able to see, hear, speak, read, and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation and care for oneself with little or no difficulty. Must be able to apply the principles of body mechanics in lifting or moving patients and/or equipment. Must be able to independently lift up to 50 pounds. Performance of principle duties and responsibilities may require the ability to travel.
