Job Description

Organization

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, the Bureau of Indian Education, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. CCSSO seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.
 

Summary

CCSSO seeks an Accountant Level II to perform daily accounting tasks that will support our financial team. Accountant Level II responsibilities include managing participants travel expense reports and reimbursements as well as processing and payment of invoices in an accurate and timely manner.
 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Reviewing, in accordance with Council Policy, and approving for payment of all participants travel reimbursements
Setting up new participants in Unanet (online expense reporting software)
Setting up new vendors for Direct Deposit in Microsoft Dynamics SL
Review and process all invoices, including proper substantiation and proper authorization
Process bi-weekly payment processing
Tracking and reporting the Accounts Payable Metrics
Reconcile vendors statements
Responsible for NTOY invoicing
Maintain files and documentation in accordance with CCSSO policy
Maintain Sales Tax Exemptions with various states
Monthly Reconciliation of general ledger accounts
Perform other duties as assigned
Backup for Sr. Accountant

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree preferred plus one (3-5) years’ work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong attention to detail and ability to apply good judgment to carry out daily instructions
Provides excellent customer service
Capable of self-motivation, performing independently and interacting appropriately in a team setting
Ability to problem solve, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks to ensure deadlines are met
Demonstrate proficient, clear, and concise verbal and written communication skills
Experience with working in an occasionally fast-paced environment.
 

Technical Skills

Must be proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word

Experience preferred with Microsoft Dynamics SL and Unanet
