Overview

AVIAN is seeking a Counter Threat Solutions Instructor to support an ongoing contract delivering a set of Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (CUAS) courses in support of the New Mexico Tech (NMT) Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC), in coordination with FEMA's National Training and Education Division (NTED).

Responsibilities

This EMRTC CUAS course series provides front-line first responders with the information necessary to develop an understanding of the criminal and terrorist threat to US communities involving the use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Incorporated into this in-person training, first responders are presented with discipline-specific actions to protect themselves and their communities in response to UAS threats. An ongoing need exists for part-time employees to assist AVIAN to deliver these EMRTC courses, including instructors with notable UAS flight experience and a FAA Part 107 Certificate.

    Leading, conducting, and/or participating in classroom, field, and computer based/aided training of first responders, as assigned.
  • Updating and reviewing course content as required, updating course documentation to ensure timeliness and relevance.
  • Assist in development of new counter threat training curriculum.
  • Execute classroom preparation and set-up for incoming students.
  • Maintaining records of training activities and participant progress.
  • Ensuring strict adherence to all applicable policy and directives.
  • Accurately assessing student performance and providing required feedback.
  • Assisting in the preparation of instructor materials such as course manuals, workbooks, handouts, completion certificates, and course evaluations forms.
  • Staying current with new training, educational, and multimedia technologies.
  • Maintaining current knowledge (currency) of all equipment and software utilized by our customers to provide training.
  • Participating in special projects within the scope of the Performance Work Statement (PWS), as required.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Counter Threat Solutions Instructor Junior High School Diploma (Bachelor's degree preferred) and 0-3 years of related experience in applicable systems and platforms. A Junior level person is responsible for assisting more senior positions and/or performing functional duties under the supervision of more senior position.
  • Journeyman Bachelors degree and 3-7 years of related experience in applicable systems and platforms Performs tasks with little or no guidance
  • Counter Threat Solutions Instructor Senior Bachelors degree and 12 years of related experience or Master's degree and 7 years of related experience in applicable systems and platforms. A Senior level person in this category is responsible for providing supervision and guidance to other instructors on multiple projects
  • Allowable Substitutions An AS or AA degree and an additional four (4) years of experience; OR an additional eight (8) years of experience may be substituted for a BS or BA degree; a Master's degree in a relevant field may substitute for 2 years of experience
  • FEMA Instructor Certification, or ability to obtain
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering instruction both individually and in groups

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience operating multiple platforms of unmanned systems
  • Graduate of a formal instructor course
  • Experience building, modifying, and/or maintaining applicable unmanned systems
  • Previous law enforcement, fire fighter, Emergency Medical or another first responder experience
  • FAA Certifications, Part 107, or military equivalent certifications for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based collaborative resources such as SharePoint and Microsoft Teams preferred
