Key Role:
Support clients across the life cycle of nuclear engineering Research and Development (R&D) programs as a nuclear engineering technical Science, Engineering, and Technology Adviser (SETA). Apply technical subject-matter or market knowledge to guide the seeding and growth of publicly financed Research and Development (R&D) programs. Characterize the state of a technical field, including identifying state of the art technologies and promising new technological approaches. Perform technical analyses to recommend technology performance and cost targets fornuclear-related technologies that enable new learning curves in energy. Identify key technical experts across academia, industry, and national labs, perform technical outreach, and facilitate the formation of new multi-disciplinary technical communities. Review highly technical proposals and support negotiations of selected projects, including advising on project plans and technical milestones for long lead time, complex Research and Development (R&D) projects. Perform direct, periodic oversight of portfolio projects' technical aspects, from set up to close out, aiding the client in managing projects towards clear and compelling outcomes.
Basic Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in authoring technical papers, reports, or program plans for technical and non-technical audiences on research related to nuclear engineering in general and used nuclear fuel reprocessing, recycling technologies, radioactive waste management, waste form development, repository science, radiochemistry, safeguards technologies, or reactor design and operations in particular
2+ years of experience in relevant postdoctoral, academic, government or industry roles related to nuclear engineering technologies
Experience conducting, directing, or assisting with research and development in the engineering, design, development, and implementation of nuclear programs or projects
Ability to provide technical support, advice, and assistance for nuclear fuel cycle programs or projects; conduct technical analyses of reprocessing, waste form development, or repository science research and development
Ability to propose nuclear engineering design approaches and prepare statements of work and other technical based portions of solicitation packages
Ability to obtain a security clearance
Doctorate degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or Radiochemistry
Additional Qualifications:
Experience in a consulting environment
Experience with energy technology development or analyzing a diverse set of energy technologies
Ability to establish and manage collaborative nuclear energy Research and Development activities with industry for advanced reactor concepts and innovative technologies, based on priorities that reflect technical, licensing and business assessments
Ability to demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness when dealing with uncertainty and ask insightful questions that challenge traditional thinking
Ability to develop and communicate meaningful insights, significant contributions, and recommendations to address complex client issues
Ability and capability to learn, grow, and develop new skills
Possession of excellent data gathering, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills
