Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

Aireon is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our Integrated Product Team at Engineering. As a Senior Azure DevOps Engineer, you will be critical to the engineering lifecycle, including estimating, technical design, implementation/development, documentation, testing, deployment, and production operations support of Aireon's cloud-based systems for our external and internal customers. You will work within the engineering group's high-tech Integrated Product Team focused on new technology.

What You'll Do

Within the first month at the role, we will expect you to:

    Get onboarded and trained with your manager.
  • Be proactive in learning what Aireon does.
  • Understand our internal processes and cloud-based products and architectures.
  • Understand the role of IPT at Aireon and learn about IPT members' roles and responsibilities.

Within the first six (6) months at the role, we will expect you to:

  • Develop the Aireon Cloud Governance playbook of policies, processes, and metrics to manage security, cost management, identity and access control, and operational risks.
  • Develop an actionable roadmap plan based on industry best practices and implement processes and tools to ensure adherence to the Aireon Cloud Governance policies.
  • Develop an actionable roadmap plan based on industry best practices and implement processes and tools to improve continuous integration, continuous delivery, and release management processes in collaboration with the Product Engineering team.
  • Develop an actionable roadmap plan based on industry best practices and implement processes and tools to improve observability and monitoring of current cloud-based platforms, including Kubernetes-based infrastructure deployments

Overall, we will expect you to:

  • Be accountable for continuously improving governance, maturity, operations, and automation of the deployment of environments, platforms, and components of Aireon products in the public and government cloud.
  • Be responsible for enabling IPT members to deliver faster and embed governance into the architecture of the workloads by provisioning, configuring, and maintaining Azure cloud infrastructure defined as code.
  • Continuously perform infrastructure cost analysis and optimization, ensuring cost consciousness throughout the SDLC process.
  • Continuously improve the security, scalability, and reliability of Aireon's cloud infrastructure.
  • Be proactive in recognizing and handling cloud-based workloads and infrastructure performance challenges.
  • Develop technical diagrams and other technical documentation to be used by project and support teams.
  • Manage and provide hands-on guidance to a team of DevOps and Cloud Engineers to adopt DevOps practices to streamline the SDLC process.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of working experience in DevOps engineering or similar roles with hands-on responsibilities in provisioning, configuration, continuous deployment, operating, and managing distributed and containerized environments in Azure.
  • Three (3) or more years of working experience in designing and deploying Application Performance Monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, Datadog, or similar.
  • Proven hands-on working experience with cloud orchestration best practices in public and government Azure environments.
  • Proven hands-on working experience in Kubernetes (primarily Azure Kubernetes Service) configuration and monitoring.
  • Proven experience with PowerShell, Terraform, Azure DevOps, ARM templates, Azure Automation, Desired State Configuration, & Infrastructure-as-a-Code for deployment and administration of all Azure services.
  • Proficiency with declarative configuration management languages (ARM, Terraform)
  • Possess a solid knowledge of distributed systems and microservices design patterns.
  • Proficiency in at least one high-level scripting language (PowerShell, Python, Bash, etc.) and at least one programming language (Java, JavaScript, C#, Python, .NET Framework)
  • Proven experience in implementing cloud security best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of agile software development lifecycle and technical complexities of performing application build, deployments, and releases using Agile practices.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience implementing systems using Spark architectures and operational expertise with Databricks.
  • Azure DevOps Engineer certification is a plus.
  • Kubernetes Administrator certification is a plus.
  • SAFe DevOps Practitioner certification is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey outside of your team and those unfamiliar with the topic.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring junior team members.
