Description West Virginia University School of Medicine and WVU Medicine Children's Hospital seek a visionary leader to serve as the inaugural Vice President and Physician-In-Chief of the newly constructed WVU Children's Hospital. This is an exceptional leadership opportunity for a physician with an unwavering commitment to excellence in clinical care, education, and research.

WVU Children's Hospital annually provides 12,000 hospital visits, 7,000 surgeries, 39,000 emergency department visits, and 95,000 ambulatory clinic visits, 2000 newborn deliveries, and 10,000 telehealth visits. It is the only hospital in the state with a pediatric cardiac surgery program, epilepsy monitoring unit, and level II pediatric trauma designation partnered with a level 1 adult trauma designation. WVU Children's Hospital is a member of the Miracle Network and enjoys robust support from donors. The new 150 bed facility is scheduled to open spring of 2022. Children's Hospital is part of the academic medical center, WVU Medicine, and the hospital has a major educational and research footprint. It is the premiere pediatric clinical learning environment for the WVU Health Sciences Center. Pediatric researchers participate in more than 80 clinical, basic, and translational studies annually. External research funding from government and industry for the institution's active research studies totals approximately $3.7million dollars. The successful candidate will provide leadership in the delivery of patient-centered care within a growing, integrated delivery health care system. The successful candidate will have the skills and commitment necessary to advance medical education, research, and motivate faculty and trainees in the discovery and application of state of the art knowledge. Candidates should have excellent communication skills. Administrative experience should include strategic planning, finance/budgeting, recruitment, quality, hospital affairs, and philanthropy. Experience in a multi-hospital system with an academic hospital as its anchor is preferred, and accomplishments in the area of improving health outcomes is desirable.

Qualified applicants must be currently certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in a specialty related to pediatrics or obstetrics, or comparable certification as determined by medical staff policies. The candidate must have an MD, DO or foreign equivalent degree, and be eligible to obtain an unrestricted West Virginia medical license. A minimum of five years of experience in an academic leadership role and an academic rank of Associate Professor or above are required. Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
