West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics seeks a Pediatric Gastroenterologist (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Morgantown, WV.


Depending on operational needs, a successful candidate may also be assigned to provide services at additional worksites in West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. In such instances, travel would be anticipated and expected to fulfill said duties at these additional sites. The division is also highly active in our clinic-to-clinic telemedicine program and participation is expected.

Duties: The successful candidate will practice pediatric gastroenterology in a group with three other gastroenterologists, three advanced practice providers, and two nurse coordinators. Endoscopy is performed within the hospital with a strong team of pediatric anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists. Inpatients are managed by the hospitalist and critical care services with Pediatric GI providing consults as needed. WVU Children's proudly participates in the Improve Care Now network. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

Qualifications: Candidate must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible for state medical license. Successful candidate must have completed a Pediatric residency program, as well as a Pediatric Gastroenterology fellowship program. Successful candidates must be board certified / eligible in Pediatric Gastroenterology. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

With an anticipated opening of early 2022, our new 150 bed Children's Hospital will have a full suite of pediatric operating rooms, cardiac catheterization lab/interventional radiology, and GI-endoscopy with dedicated pediatric anesthesia staff. The hospital will include 34 pediatric beds, 54 NICU beds, 26 PICU beds, Heart Center, and a dedicated Cancer Center. WVU Medicine Children's is a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, with plans to become Level 1, as it is for adults currently. There will also be a Birthing Center including a 30-bed obstetrical unit and maternal-fetal medicine clinic. J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in West Virginia with a pediatric cardiac surgery program, the only epilepsy monitoring unit in the state equipped to serve children, and the only hospital in the state to receive Magnet status for nursing excellence.
