Job Description
Risk & Compliance Risk Manager, TMT
Who You'll Work With
You will be based in our Atlanta, Boston, Houston, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco or Washington DC office as part of our Tech, Media and Telecom (TMT) practice.
The Tech, Media and Telecom (TMT) practice serves innovators ranging from start-ups to industry leaders across the consumer tech and media, consumer electronics, enterprise software, mobile operators, IT services, and technology hardware and infrastructure sub-sectors.
TMT's dedicated practice operations team, which collaborates closely with the practice's partners, client service teams and other firm functions, define and ensure appropriate risk management in all our external communication. On a day-to-day basis, you will work closely with TMT's director of communications, risk manager, communications managers, executive editor, practice managers and regional risk partners. You will frequently collaborate with colleagues across the firm including other professionals from our communications, media relations and legal teams. You will join a global reputation risk community where you can gather insights and apply learnings from other practices across the firm. You will report to the global director of communications for TMT.
What You'll Do
You will help further enhance the practice's risk governance by operationalizing risk management for client situations and institutionalizing a culture of risk awareness throughout the practice.
In this role, you will work closely with the Tech, Media and Telecommunications practice's risk partners and other dedicated risk team members as well as client-serving partners and colleagues across the firm. You will work closely with the global senior risk advisor, TMT director of communications and regional risk partners to advise the practice's partners, client service teams and other departments to manage potential risks in engagements. You will integrate advice from across firm functions (including communications, legal and risk) and "cells" (industry and functional practices, geographic offices, new delivery models) to provide counsel on multi-faceted issues. In addition, you will work closely with the TMT risk team, TMT partners as well as firm risk leaders and firm legal on both ongoing and ad hoc initiatives such as continued efforts to raise risk awareness and management throughout the practice and beyond.
In all activities, you will serve as a peer adviser to partners and an ambassador for the TMT risk team's dual mission of enabling client service while managing risks to the firm.
Qualifications
  • Graduate degree or JD preferred
  • 5 years of professional experience with technology regulations through legal, compliance, consulting/professional services and/or risk management capacity
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity through professional training, advanced degree or professional impact
  • Demonstrated record of experience and subject-matter expertise of technology industry and its evolving risk landscape globally
  • Exceptional integrity and judgement
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to handle complex, sensitive issues
  • Demonstrated track record of managing multiple priorities; project management experience
  • Strong personal presence and credibility; ability to work across all levels of seniority and geographies, cultivating trust-based, peer-counsel or relationships
  • Distinctive interpersonal and collaboration skills; entrepreneurial, collaborative attitude with interest and aptitude for working as part of a global team across countries and cultures
  • Highly resilient with an action-oriented style; comfort and credibility in challenging discussions with senior colleagues, balancing assertiveness, persistence, flexibility, humility, tact and calmness under pressure
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; clear and concise writing and editorial skills
  • Fluency in English
