Job Description
Communications Corporate and Crisis Communications Manager
Who You'll Work With
You will be based in one of our North America offices as part of our Tech, Media and Telecom (TMT) practice.
The Tech, Media and Telecom (TMT) practice serves innovators ranging from start-ups to industry leaders across the consumer tech and media, consumer electronics, enterprise software, mobile operators, IT services, and technology hardware and infrastructure sub-sectors.
TMT's dedicated practice operations team, which collaborates closely with the practice's partners, client service teams and other firm functions, define and ensure appropriate risk management in all our external communication. On a day-to-day basis, you will work closely with TMT's director of communications, risk manager, communications managers, executive editor, practice managers and regional risk partners. You will frequently collaborate with colleagues across the firm including other professionals from our communications, media relations and legal teams. You will join a global reputation risk community where you can gather insights and apply learnings from other practices across the firm. You will report to the global director of communications for TMT.
What You'll Do
You will monitor changes in the risk landscape across the tech, media and telecom industries, anticipate risk issues and help navigate an increasingly complex environment to mitigate and manage reputational risks.
In this role, you will manage reputational risk issues from planning through execution, guide colleagues on research and PR collaborations with third-party organizations, and lead internal practice communications to help institutionalize a culture of purpose and risk awareness throughout the practice. You will serve as a trusted advisor and expert on matters related to the practice's reputation risk profile.
Alongside the TMT external relations team, you will review and manage the risk of a range of content produced by the practice including insights for publishing on external channels such as McKinsey.com, presentations and event materials, certain client deliverables and other external assets. You will ensure all content shared externally by the practice adheres to TMT's risk guidelines and enhances the firm's reputation.
You will work with the TMT director of communications, TMT senior risk advisors and the firm's central reputational risk team that advises on and manages reputation risks across the lifecycle of a potential issue, from early internal decision-making through crisis management of live matters. You'll develop internal and external messaging, oversee practice communications plans and communicate with members of the media as appropriate. As necessary, you will also help practice colleagues prepare for briefings with other critical stakeholders.
You will guide colleagues across the firm on research collaborations with external TMT institutions to shape an approach that enables us to collaborate with leading organizations while preserving McKinsey's reputation for independence and objectivity. You will coordinate leadership approvals with relevant leaders within the firm and you will provide ongoing guidance through publication and promotion of the insights.
You will anticipate potential reputational issues globally and work with the firm's reputation risk management function to prevent, prepare for, and if necessary, handle and monitor risks as they emerge. You will actively engage with practice leadership and client service teams to educate them on firm-wide policies and best practices for avoiding reputational concerns.
