Job Purpose: Serve on the Sustainment East contract as an Intermediate Application Administrator (UNIX) supporting DISA operations at Data Center Montgomery, Maxwell AFB - Gunter Annex, Montgomery AL, responsible for Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) and Mission Partner written Government Off The Shelf (GOTS) software running on various different versions of UNIX-based operating systems, to include RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Oracle Solaris, in the NIPRNet and SIPRNet environments. Performs System Administration functions which require privileged access to DISA information systems and include actions such as installation, implementation, testing, maintenance, Web administration, troubleshooting, repair and application security administration support.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-level technical systems administrative support and direction for a variety of UNIX-based Operating Environments (OE) and associated middleware regarding system administrative subjects, concepts, and tool sets supporting DISA operations to include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software, validating and implementing critical system patches, allocating mass storage space and isolating/repairing faults using a series of diagnostic tools and tests
  • Ability to complete essential system administration functions across a matrixed team of technicians to include both government and contractor, set up and maintain multiple and different versions of UNIX-based OEs, supporting tools, middleware, and privilege sets, attend and actively participate in change and configuration control functions, and implement Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) in direct support of Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM)
  • Analyze diagnostics of applications, system and vendor software, and operate with appreciable latitude in developing methodology and presenting solutions to problems regarding operating system/application system performance/challenges, administer/execute UNIX-based utilities, system and vendor software; and monitoring and tuning UNIX-based OEs, system software upgrades, installations, maintenance to improve performance and reliability within the supported OE
  • Troubleshoot and actively work incident management responses related to UNIX systems, related tool sets and unique customer requirements, complete proper documentation, and follow through to develop strategies, policies, procedures to design and implementation standards related to the use of UNIX-based resources
  • Exercise sound independent judgement in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria associated with obtaining results under this contract; and identify upgrade needs, and anticipate customer requirements by effectively planning, scheduling, and overseeing system upgrades
  • Develop, install and monitor UNIX-based OEs and associated system software; migration application subsystems and determine functional requirements through daily interactions with customers and coordinate with the development teams on systematic enhancements or changes consulting Senior and Master level for support
  • Conduct performance monitoring and work as part of a team to provide support when required and support cybersecurity and IA policy efforts to maintain the cybersecurity posture of supported systems, related hardware, and support tools
  • Interact with both customer and contract leadership relating complex technical issues/solutions in a manner to establish their confidence
  • Improve the customer's operating environment by providing expert support while also maintaining the cybersecurity/IA posture of systems/hardware managed/administered for DISA Mission Partners' assets

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Required

  • Minimum Secret Security Clearance, and
  • Current DoD 8570 Information Assurance Technical Level II (IAT-Lvl II) certification
  • 5 years of relevant/recent application administration experience, or
  • 3 years of relevant/recent application administration experience AND one of the following:

a. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university with a major in IT, engineering, science or mathematics or;

b. Current RedHat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification or;

c. Current System Administrator or Oracle Solaris System Administrator certification.

Preferred

  • CompTIA Security+CE for DoD 8570 IAT-Lvl II certification
