POSITION SUMMARY

The Plant Front End Loader Operator safely and productively operates and maintains loader unit to feed asphalt plant hoppers. The operator will stockpile material, sort materials, load haul vehicles, hoists objects and may backfill trenches, and cuts and fills materials.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Asphalt Plant Front End Loader Operator safely and productively operates and maintains loader unit to feed asphalt plant hoppers. The operator will stockpile material, sort materials, load haul vehicles, hoists objects and may backfill trenches, and cuts and fills materials.

The Loader Operator reports directly to the Plant Operator whom he reviews job specifications and safety considerations on a daily basis, if necessary. Although the Operator is part of a team/crew, his work is performed independently or with minimal on-site supervision. Handling multiple assignments and the willingness to perform any task is expected. The Operator maintains attention to detail over extended period of time, continually aware of variations in changing situations. The Loader Operator works under time pressure and may work an irregular schedule.

The Loader Operator complies with Scheduled Maintenance Requirements and performs Pre-operational Inspection and Daily Service of the Front End Loader. Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.). Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and Plant Operator/Manager.

JOB DUTIES

• Perform daily equipment, walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained.
• Safely and properly perform maintenance (lubricating, fueling and cleaning) on loader. Service Loader with "5 shots of grease daily". Understands where the grease should be applied and the importance of the daily grease.
• Safely and properly operate loader. Make sure bucket is lowered to ground whenever leaving the equipment.
• Operates loader to feed plant at rate of 320 ton/hour.
• Properly load trucks (up to legal hauling weight limit) and ensure safe loading procedure so as not to hit the truck or tarp with the bucket.
• Maintain smooth, level yard for hauling.
• Maintain aggregate piles for optimal production. Example: Work across pile if pile is wet.
• Inspect material, checking for gradation quality, oversize rocks, and contaminants.
• Keep pit floor smooth and haul roads maintained.
• Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.). Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and Plant Operator/Manager.
