Job Description

This is an interesting and challenging position for an experienced and innovative Biophysicist to join our research group. You will be a key contributor to identification, development, and integration of emerging microscopy/imaging technologies for Sartorius' bioanalytics portfolio. We are providing leading edge live cell analysis platforms for basic research and the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. You will be working with internal and external subject matter experts to identify the nature of nascent technologies, including both spectroscopic and of optical (visible light based) systems, ultimately leading to the establishment of external research programmes to develop technologies to proof of concept.

You will be based at our site in Royston, near Cambridge.

What you will accomplish together with us:

  • Conducting strategic research and development of visible light or spectroscopic technologies for live cell imaging in order to provide a basis for development of current and future products

  • Identifying and building relationships with external partners focused on the technology conception, development and testing

  • Creating and supporting development of prototype technologies through to proof of concept

  • Collaborating with product management and development teams to prioritise areas of future technology research

  • Providing guidance to software developers and hardware engineers in integrating imaging subsystems into breadboards or existing platforms

  • Providing support to technical support team and R&D teams for transfer of technologies

What will convince us:

  • MS or PhD in Biophysics, Physics or other closely related discipline with substantial formal education and experience with optical biological imaging technologies

  • Experience and knowledge of state-of the-art biological imaging technologies and their application for research and development is desirable

  • Good knowledge of current development in optical and spectroscopic imaging technologies

  • Strong hands-on experience with optical subsystems in image collection systems

  • Solid foundation in basic image processing techniques: enhancement, feature recognition and segmentation

  • Experience working as part of multi-partner R&D projects

  • Proficiency in tools used in development of image analysis, e.g. MATLAB, R, Python, ImageJ, C++, etc.

  • Capable of working with colleagues from engineering, R&D, product management, technical support and other teams
