Job Description
Cardno is seeking a Senior Project Terrestrial Biologist to join our strong, well established team of wildlife biologists, wetland specialists, and botanists. You will be joining a premier natural resources and engineering consulting firm renowned for its strategic planning, innovative solutions, and problem-solving capabilities. We specialize in sustainable natural systems engineering, geomorphology, biology, water and natural resource management, permitting, and compliance.

The terrestrial staff work seamlessly with a multidisciplinary team of accomplished aquatic biologists, botanists, hydrologists, geologists, engineers, and planners to support a variety of aquatic, water resources, restoration, renewable energy, fire management, and power projects throughout California.

Job Description:

Day to day responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing projects/project teams in the execution of projects/tasks keeping to agreed budget and schedule.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and training wildlife biologists, wetlands, and botanical staff, and recruit candidates, as needed,to expand the Cardno staff capabilities.
  • Serving as a senior technical reviewer
  • Preparing and/or overseeing the preparation of work plans, technical memoranda, and reports.
  • As a senior member of the team, leading proposal efforts for variety of projects for private/state/local governments. As such, you will be responsible for developing scopes of work, budgets, and schedules. You will be coordinating teaming and subcontracting discussion/agreements for specific project opportunities.
  • As a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for client management; developing and maintaining clients in an account management model.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, natural resource management, planning or related field
  • 12 or mor years of relevant experience
  • Willing and able to travel to field sites and other Cardno office locations
  • Must be available to oversee or conduct project work as necessary.
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative
  • Valid driver's license and be able to operate motorized vehicles
  • Be authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship

Technical Requirements:

  • Supervisory and management experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Expertise in local, state, and federal environmental wildlife, wetlands, and botanical resources regulations
  • Strong backgroundinCalifornia flora and wildlife/avian species and habitats
  • Led or significant role in environmental permitting processes, especially permits required under Section 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act, and Stream Bed Alteration Permits
  • Technical lead and primary author of terrestrial sections for NEPA/CEQA
  • Experience working with California utilities, a plus.
  • Business development experience
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and complete projects within scope and budget
  • Ability to simultaneously work on and manage multiple tasks/projects while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible, team-oriented approach, with the willingness and desire to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team and with diverse team members
  • Strong organizational skills
