Job Description

Securian Financial is hiring a Claims Examiner Customer Operations Representative to join our Madison, WI location.

The Claims Examiner Customer Operations Representative role is a multi-faceted position that plays a key role in the support of our key client, the state of Wisconsin.

This role serves as a point of contact for beneficiaries and validating those claims.

The selected candidate will be cross-trained in different departments and focus on a variety of tasks and initiatives that make up the backbone of superior client service.

Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Receives, reviews, processes, and examines life insurance claims and makes recommendations for payment to beneficiaries
  • Communicates with Home Office claims examiners, ETF, and with beneficiaries to coordinate payment of claims
  • Ensures the accuracy of claims entry and that claims requirements are met
  • Receives, reviews, processes, and examines life insurance claims and makes recommendations for payment to beneficiaries
  • Communicates with Home Office claims examiners, ETF, and with beneficiaries to coordinate payment of claims
  • Ensures the accuracy of claims entry and that claims requirements are met
  • Communicates with employers, employees, Wisconsin Department of Employee Trust Funds staff, and Home Office associates to resolve customer inquiries and solve problems regarding insurance plan provisions and administrative procedures
  • Process Death Claims, Accidental Death Claims, and Accelerated Death Claims, and Disability Premium Waiver Claims
  • Audit and process applications, evidence of insurability (EOI) applications, and retirement certifications of coverage
  • Reconcile monthly premium for local and state government employers, annuitants, and directly billed insureds
  • Verify eligibility for conversions to individual policies

Qualifications

  • 2+ years' experience in office administration and customer service

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the insurance industry

Environment

Through its contract with the Wisconsin Group Insurance Board, Securian provides the group life insurance coverage for the State of Wisconsin's public employees. The life insurance program is administered by the Wisconsin Department of Employee Trust Funds for approximately 200,000 employees and retirees who participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System as well as other private pension plans. Over 800 public employers participate in the program including state agencies, school districts, counties, cities, villages, towns and other local public authorities. Securian has held this contract since 1958 and it has been the model in developing the Group Division's branch office system.

The Madison Branch Office (MBO) provides the administration for the Wisconsin Public Employers Group Life Insurance Program. It is responsible for the client relationship with the Wisconsin Group Insurance Board and the Wisconsin Department of Employee Trust Funds. It is the main contact for the insured employees, and retirees, as well as, the benefits and payroll professionals who work at the individual participating employers. The MBO performs all the daily operations necessary to administer the life insurance program in accordance with the state statutes and administrative code rules that govern the program, and the policy and administrative agreement.

The Madison Branch Office leverages technology to provide world class customer service. Among the tools utilized are document imaging and Internet based administration systems, in addition to the mainframe systems of both the Wisconsin Retirement System and Securian.

As stewards of the State of Wisconsin Employee Trust Fund, the Department of Employee Trust Funds is responsible for administering all of the benefit plans provided under the Wisconsin retirement System, which includes the life insurance program. To ensure that the group life insurance program operates efficiently and delivers a high level of customer service, aggressive service guarantees have been established. The service level of the MBO is routinely measured on a quantitative and qualitative basis.
