WACKER SILICONES is one of the world's biggest silicone manufacturers with silicone-based system solutions and over 3,000 different products. At our Ann Arbor site, we are currently looking for aChemist III/Senior Chemist to join our growing team.

Job Responsibilities

The chemist role is responsible to development, analysis and testing of new silicone-based materials and formulations. This role contributes to interdisciplinary development projects within a team environment.

  • Develop new products and technologies that enable both growth as well as strengthen/defend the existing business position. Leverage core technology to develop offerings that provide long term performance and/or economic advantage in the marketplace.
  • Ability to design experiments, analyze results and write reports summarizing data and findings with well thought out conclusions
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary development projects within a team environment for architectural and consumer market segments.
  • Visit customers to support sales with the discovery process, identify unmet needs, and presenting results.
  • Focus on safe lab operations, managing lab routines, including equipment maintenance.
  • Effectively communicates with internal technical colleagues, including R&D, Business Teams and Production.
  • Contribute to a creative Application Development environment including idea and innovation discussions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field
  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field, preferred
  • Knowledge of structure, property performance relationships in polymer coatings and/or basic knowledge of interfacial phenomena and rheology
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in related field required
  • Ability to translate an idea into a viable commercial product is essential. This includes, but is not limited to experimental planning, economic evaluation, manufacturing considerations, safety and regulatory compliance, intellectual property considerations etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals, both on the technical side as well as the commercial side, is necessary. This includes both individuals within the company, as well as customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong commitment to environmental health and safety excellence.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Driven by curiosity and has a high level of engagement.
