What's the Job?

Penske Technician II/Welder will generally assist in the repair and diagnosis of major components or remove/replace major components at the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor or Branch Service Manager. Expectations include the ability to diagnose and repair the following with little or no supervision: Weldments, rust damage, sheet metal fabrication, approved, department requested vehicle modifications and componentry install.

This position is located at 1050 Swedesford Rd., Berwyn, PA.

The schedule for this position is second shift: 2:30pm - 11pm.

Major Responsibilities:

-Requires the ability to operate, calibrate, tune and synchronize, and perform complex rapid adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as welders, cutting/brazing torches, saws, grinders, forges, anvils, chisels, drills, forklifts, wrenches and/or related materials used in performing essential functions.

-Requires the ability to use a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as blueprints, drawings, work orders, production schedules, repair manuals, product specifications, operation manuals and material data sheets.

  • Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; calculate fractions, decimals, surface area and volume.
  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral and diagrammatic or schedule form.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variation in assigned objective.

-Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or difference between smells and characteristics of colors to determine metal temperature and liquefaction properties, shapes to distinguish objects clearly, sounds to detect proper equipment operation and textures to determine finish quality of work projects.

-Ability to handle multiple assignments as assigned by supervisor

General Requirements:

  • 2 or more years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Vocational/Technical training in welding/metal fabrication techniques with 3 to 5 years of verifiable automotive structural welding and/or heavy truck and equipment repair experience
  • Current welding certification in one or more of the following disciplines: GMAW, SMAW, MIG, TIG
  • Specialized training in the repair and replacement of vehicle components preferred
  • Proficiency in the use of shop tools required
  • A valid drivers license is required
  • Current CDL license with air brake certification preferred, willingness to acquire CDL if you do not have one.
  • ASE Technician certifications preferred
  • Basic computer skills preferred for data entry into maintenance systems.
  • Ability to work in non-climate controlled conditions required
  • Willingness to travel as necessary within the district (customers yards, close geographical area and training sites), work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required

The associate is frequently required to use hands to touch, handle, and feel, and to reach with hands and arms. The associate must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50lbs/23kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100lbs/45kg.
